OUR MISSION Established in 1982, the mission of Jewish Family Service of the Desert (JFS) is to provide for the social service needs of the Jewish and general community throughout the greater Coachella Valley with a commitment to promote the well-being of persons of all ages, incomes and lifestyles. OUR CLIENTS JFS is a non-sectarian, non-profit organization that provides an array of counseling and social services to those in need regardless of religion, age, income, ethnicity or lifestyle. Last year, the agency provided direct services to more than 3,000 men, women and children in need. OUR STAFF The staff of JFS is comprised of dedicated group of professionals committed to serving our
community. They have diverse professional backgrounds that include clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, and drug addiction specialists, as well as case managers and geriatric specialists helping the most impoverished and vulnerable members of the community. SERVING OUR COMMUNITY Mental Health Counseling Professional clinicians provide therapy for individuals, couples and families to meet the challenges of life. Food Assistance Food vouchers are distributed to those in need of emergency assistance. Positive Life Series Educational seminars for people living with HIV/AIDS. Emergency Assistance Assistance for families and individuals experiencing unexpected financial crisis. Grief & Loss Groups Support groups for those with bereavement issues. Information & Referrals Linking families and individuals in need with vital community resources. JFS Speaker’s Bureau Mental health professionals present topics on a variety of issues confronting our community. Holiday Gift Giving Program JFS joins with other community agencies to donate holiday gifts to local men, women and children in need. SERVING OUR SENIORS Senior Care Management Providing care management to help older adults age safely and with greater independence. JFS Express Transporting homebound seniors to medical appointments and other important activities.
Friendly Visitor Volunteers visit homebound seniors to provide companionship and support. Let’s Do Lunch! Provides homebound seniors lunch, activities and socialization opportunities. Peace of Mind Low cost senior assessment, monitoring and support program. SERVING OUR YOUTH KidsFirst Counseling School-based counseling program targeting at-risk children. KidsFirst Healthy Life Program School-based anti-bullying and drug resistance program. Intensive Outpatient Program Counseling for teens with drug and alcohol problems. Camp Scholarships Summer camp scholoarships for low-income children. SERVING OUR JEWISH COMMUNITY Café Europa Support and education to Holocaust survivors living in our community. Shabbat in a Bag Volunteers visit the homebound to celebrate the weekly holiday. Jewish Holiday Programs JFS brings holiday celebrations and socialization to the Jewish Jewish community.
