1. To soften stale marshmallows, place a slice of fresh apple in a covered container with the marshmallows.

2. If soup is too salty, add a peeled raw potato which will absorb much of the salt.

3. To slice warm bread without tearing, warm the knife. 4. To prevent your board from slipping while rolling out dough, place a wet cloth under it. 5. Use a vegetable peeler on a bar of bittersweet chocolate to make chocolate curls.

6. To ripen avocado or pineapple, place in a paper bag; seal and let stand in a warm, not hot, spot. 7. To prevent steaks from curling up during broiling, slash through the outside fat at one-inch intervals. 8. To rid hands of odor from fish, wash with salt first, then with cold water.

10. To prevent brown sugar from lumping, place a piece of rye bread in a covered container with it, or store brown sugar in the refrigerator. To restore lumpy dried brown sugar, place a piece of crumpled, thoroughly dampened paper toweling in the box. Close box securely and leave 24 hours. 11. To remove kernels from the corn cob, place the ear in the funnel of an angel food cake pan and shave down on the cob; kernels will fall into the pan. 12. The volume of beaten egg whites is heightened when eggs are at room temperature. 13. Do not use a fork to prick roasting or broiling meat because it will lose all the juices; use tongs. 14. Make sure nuts are fresh before using in baking because they will spoil the flavor of the baked goods. Taste before using. 15. Heavy cream doubles in volume when whipped. 16. Fresh tomatoes keep longer when placed with stem end down.
