I photograph rock stars
To my daughter Lucy, be who you are.
“Greg Watermann has a great eye, but is also a great guy. Unlike most photographers, he doesn’t zoom, use lighting, or use any tricks of the photographic trade. He lands himself in the right spot, takes a breath, and clicks. He is one of the best live photographers in music today. Because he’s a great guy, he’s sensitive towards artists and their space, so unless you tell him to do so, he’ll never get in your way. And when the gig is done, he is there with a smile to share in the moment. I consider him a dear friend.” - Serj Tankian, 2009

System of a Down. August 13th, 2006. West Palm Beach Fl.
I got my first camera when I was seven, so I guess I’ve always been a photographer: family vacations, high school yearbook, first job, college major, and photo assistant. In 1987, I started shooting portraits and fashion for ELLE, Rolling Stone, Cosmopolitan, and SPIN. Ten years ago I moved to Hollywood and began to document music exclusively. This exhibit features images from my career so far, from Julia Roberts (before she was in the movies) and Nirvana’s first major magazine cover, to world tours with Mudvayne and Linkin Park and the last(?) performances of System Of A Down. The passion I have for photography is my desire to share what I see... with others.
