Welcome to the Art Department! During Year 7 you will have the opportunity to research and analysis different artists and cultures, explore themes and develop skills with a range of materials and techniques. Throughout the Year your progress will be supported in a range of ways. Within Art we rely heavily on verbal feedback; enabling us to personalise your learning journey and ensure you have ownership of the direction of a project. We also use D.I.R.T Directed Improvement Reflective Time, to provide a written log of shared assessment between teacher, student and peers.

How am I Being Assessed in Art? There are 4 different skill areas your art is measured against to give you a working level from 3 to 8; Assessment Objectives. This is to ensure we are building on a range of skills within Art from practical making to recognising cultural influences and discussing your own opinions. Many of the tasks within Art cross over from one of the Assessment Objectives to another, and at the end of each project your work is marked as a whole and given a single Level. To help you follow your progression, and identify key areas to develop, we do 4 ‘Focus Tasks’ in each project. This is where a specific task is set and assessed against 1 of the Assessment Criteria. For example; in the Insects Project, there is a Focus Task to analyse the art work of Lucy Arnold. This is assessed using D.I.R.T. against Assessment Objective 3.
