The Mechanics of a Mall Advanced Art Final Project Photography: Conceptual Composition
Emmeline Wei Advanced Art — 4th Period — Ms. Van Dyke
Lets Begin...
1. Line 2. Shape 3. Color 4. Texture 5. Form 6. Space 7. Value
The concept of line can be found in almost anything with a straight edge. Here are two simple shots of my favorite views displaying lines.
Doesnâ€&#x;t get any more rounder than this. A flamboyant view of color and round spheres that give shape and dimension to this display case.
A juice array of colorful bags and accessories ready to be bought and worn, in addition to your wardrobe.
Believe it or not, this is not actually wood. Itâ€&#x;s difficult to tell at first glace, with its wooden texture and design. Anyone would be fooled. (Only upon closer look, do we notice the smooth and plastic surface.)
Bed of Rose Petals and Flowers — what an elegant displace of form to accentuate a beauty product.
What better way to express „space‟ but through vacancy?
Display of light and dark, both elements of value. Light helps define a shape, regardless of color. As shown in an example below. (non photographic)

1. Contrast 2. Rhythm 3. Emphasis 4. Balance 5. Movement 6. Pattern 7. Unity
The obvious contrast between these two dresses are the color contrast. One being white while the other is black.
The mannequins display a sort of rhythmic and vibrant pose. The design of stripes can also play a part on how the rhythm is being expressed. Bold colors and shiny accessories give off a louder beat, while pastel colors and classic jewelry play a softer lullaby.
To emphasize the strength of a heel, marketers and advertisements cleverly thought of putting a large poser of a fair skinned women seductively posing behind the shoes. Note the emphasis of a single shoe just by the poster — as if to say “Hello, this lady here is trying to seduce you, but here is a shoe for you! Ladies, buy it and you‟ll be just as, if not closer to seduction as this lady is. Oh and gentlemen, you know how to find her, she‟ll be wearing heels.”
Two photos taken of the ceiling at different parts of the Westfield mall (downtown). The ceiling represents a unifying structure that reaches out to all departments of the mall, including the entire building itself— clumping it all together into the infrastructure we know as a mall.
For use and letting me borrow their photography camera (owned by WTHS) — Thank you Jonathan Chow. For inspiration and photographs — Thank you Downtown Westfield! © Photographer— Emmeline Wei
