When Is The Ideal Time For Music Lessons? Have you watched an infant groove or a toddler dance to a song on the radio? Listening to music and even making music is something that young children, even babies, like. Music stimulates children’s brain and motor movement while helping build math and language skills. There is always a good time to join in the harmonious fun because music programs are available for almost every age range. When deciding to start music classes for kids, here are some areas to consider: Babies Babies are introduced to music as soon as they leave the womb. Oftentimes while rocking them to sleep, parents sing their infants lullabies. Young babies like the combination of music and movement; it is nurturing and helps establish a bond with their parents. Infant music classes are available in most communities, sometimes through a music school, conservatory, or perhaps a public library. Parents stay with their babies and learn various songs and rhymes that they may not know or remember from their own childhoods. It’s a good idea to let your baby help you decide if he or she is ready for trying out a class. If the schedule doesn’t fit with your naptime regimen, you could have a hard time dealing with a cranky baby while trying to sing along. Having realistic expectations is also necessary. Babies aren’t going to learn how to play the piano, but they will develop an appreciation for music from these early structured experiences. Toddlers and Preschool Children Young children are ripe and completely ready for musical playtime groups. They're at the right age for peer socialization plus they are able to communicate their interests and preferences. In this age group, a lot of needs are met by music classes for kids. Children learn to follow rules, be respectful, take turns, and share as they participate. Movement and exploration are included in most preschool music classes. Children are exposed to different music genres and cultures as well as several types of instruments, giving them an opportunity to learn about more than what's in their backyards. Early music theory could even be learned. Just like a language that is mastered over time, so is learning how music is structured and created. School-Aged Children Even when they start kindergarten or early grades you need to continue to promote your child’s participation in music classes. Children need an outlet for their creativity and their desire to move, sing, and dance and music provides it. Music classes for children are tailored for their age range, which means that music theory might receive much more emphasis for school-aged children. Their understanding of music will help them now in their school studies from math to language. Some children may even ask about beginning lessons for musical instruments, or maybe dance or voice lessons. Make sure your child is showing signs of interest before evaluating for readiness as you want the lessons to be fun and rewarding. Fun for All
