College & Test Prep Center This year, a new section of the library was created to house materials focusing on college and test preparation. There are a wide variety of books available for check out including AP test prep, ACT and SAT prep, selecting a major in college, scholarship information, and college checklists. In support of the College & Test Prep Center, the MHS Library now provides access to the Testing & Education Reference Center. This database contains a wealth of information for parents and students including practice tests for AP courses, SAT, ACT, and PSAT, college admissions information, a scholarship search tool, and a resume builder. Included in the database is the Family College Planning Center, which provides a checklist for students and parents on “should do” things to prepare for college. This database and all library resources can be accessed through the MHS Library page http://manzano.aps.edu/welcome-to-thelibrary. A password is required for off-campus access to all databases – check with your student or email Ms. Eaton.

Book Recommendations for Students and Parents Dead Mountain: The Untold True Story of the Dyatlov Pass Incident (Eichar): In February 1959, a group of nine experienced hikers in the Russian Ural Mountains died mysteriously on an elevation known as Dead Mountain. Eerie aspects of the incident-- unexplained violent injuries, signs that they cut open and fled the tent without proper clothing or shoes, a strange final photograph taken by one of the hikers, and elevated levels of radiation found on some of their clothes-- have led to decades of speculation over what really happened. Eichar retraces the hikers' fateful journey in the Russian winter to bring the real story of what happened that night on Dead Mountain. Station Eleven (Mandel) In a future in which a pandemic has left few survivors, actress Kirsten Raymonde, having witnessed paparazzoturned-EMT Jeevan Chaudhary try to save the life of actor Arthur Leander after he suffered a heart attack on stage, travels with a troupe performing Shakespeare and finds herself in a community in which a prophet will not let anyone leave alive.

Student Senate Homecoming Coronation: During the beginning of September, Manzano's Student Senate sponsored our annual Homecoming Coronation. The assembly is a long-standing tradition we have at Manzano. It is a way to give back to the Homecoming Court members who have participated and contributed to their school the past four years. It is not only to acknowledge and recognize the deeds that the Court members have done but also a way to incorporate other organizations, e.g., Choir, NJROTC, Drama. This assembly took place on Tuesday, September 8. Clothing Bank: To help the community, members of Student Senate, ASU, and Homecoming Court helped with a clothing bank for students in Protect the Pride. This occurred throughout the entire Homecoming Season. Tailgate: Manzano's freshman class senate representatives organized a homecoming tailgate on Thursday, September 10th. This allowed the organizations of Manzano to fundraise while homecoming court members greeted and interacted with their fellow peers. H o m e c o m i n g D a n c e : T o e n d Manzano’s Homecoming festivities, the Junior class hosted our annual Homecoming dance on Saturday, September 12. Students experienced "A Walk through Wonderland" dancing the night away. Many parents and administration assisted with chaperoning and security.
