Acknowledgements First and foremost, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to my lecturer, Heesun for your guidance for the past 6 months. I appreciate your time and advice given to me during consultation sessions so that I can improve on this project. Indeed the journey of this Major Project wasn’t easy, but thank you for having faith in me. Not forgetting my friends, Felicia, Lyvia, Vanessa, Gaven, Juvi, and Naomi. You guys are the reason why I enjoyed my poly life so much. Thank you for bringing laughter and joy even when we’re going through heavy submissions. Although this is our last time being in the studio together, I’ll always remember you guys and hope that so many blessings will come your way after graduation. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the rest of the class: I’m really blessed to have you as my classmates, and I’ll always treasure the memories I have with you guys throughout the past 3 years. Last but not the least, to my parents, who have been very supportive throughout my journey as an IAD student.

Project Synopsis
MARINA BAY | 3 FULLERTON ROAD | S(049215)
With the issue of being unable to travel for leisure due to the ongoing pandemic, this project looks at how I can design spaces for locals to actively explore our hidden local gems and get to know their homeland in a fresh light.
Target Audience: Families with teenage kids Site: Fullerton Waterboat House In relation to my project intention, I chose this as my site as it is a place that is not well-known by the general public, despite being located in the city of Singapore and is situated near notable landmarks like the Fullerton Hotel and Esplanade, thus making it a hidden gem in Singapore’s City.

CONTRASTING ELEMENTS HISTORICAL
(WATERBOAT HOUSE)
TRANSITION (LINK BRIDGE)
MODERNITY (GLASS ANNEX)
According to my research, the waterboat house and glass annex have a contrast, architecturally and spatially. As the waterboat house is old and made of stone, the glass annex is new and made of glass. Therefore, I have the idea of designing a space that is able to seamlessly transit from being in a old heritage building to a new and modern glass annex.
Experimenting with possible spatial layouts by drawing lines derived from the architectural characteristics of the waterboat house Among these 6 possibilities, I picked green to develop further.
9
Forming my spatial layout
I brought the curved line from glass annex into the waterboat house, as if introducing the new to the old. Simultaneously, a straight line from the waterboat house cuts into the glass annex, indicating the old entering the new. The point of intersection between these 2 lines is at the bridge that connects both buildings together.

BASEMENT
Same form is applied to all 3 levels of the waterboat house
Further development of spatial planning After deriving this form, I proceeded to detail out my plans using AutoCAD. Shown below is the progress of the developments.

Bringing my idea of lines into the interior space
Straight lines are perceived as ‘formal’, ‘serious’ as they reflect order and stability
Curved lines are seen as more free-spirited and ‘playful’ due to its organic nature
Using straight lines to make curved lines
Manipulating the thickness of lines to bring out moods like ‘formal’ and ‘playful’. As the line travels through the waterboat house, it starts to get thinner, thus losing its sense of formality and taking on a more playful form as it enters the glass annex.
JOURNEY OF LINES A continuous line that threads through the building marks out the route that the form will take.
