SKILLS
FORMALITY & PLAYFULNESS 7 Fort Canning Rise S179869
This was my integrated studio project for Year 2 whereby our client was the Registry of Marriages(ROM), and they are looking for new design ideas to give the building a new lease of life. This is the place where Singaporeans go to officially register their marriages, which makes it a significant place for many couples.A total of 140 students, including myself, from Temasek Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Singapore University of Technology and Design(SUTD) participated in this project by coming up with design proposals for our client.
SITE ANALYSIS
Located at fort canning, the site is situated on a hill and offers both scenic and city views. Due to the lack of high-rise buildings within the proximity, there is no obstruction of wind flow. Most visitors take private transport here as there is no direct public transport available.
CONCEPT MODEL SCALE 1:100
To get married is a very joyous ocassion, but we must also note that it is an serious event as it involves two parties signing an official law document. With that in mind, I designed a space which an atmosphere that is able to give my users a sense of either formality or playfulness through the use of light and shadows.

Diffused and soft natural lighting helps to set a gentle and informal mood. For instance, at the waiting area where both families gather and have dialogue, I used skylights to create different shadow patterns that change as the sun travels overhead the building. As the couple enters the solemnization room, the ambience changes to a more formal mood through the use of lighting that has sharper edges. This helps to evoke a sense of silence and respect for the couple during the solemnization ceremony. I incorporated string art installations in my design as it represents two individuals that are connected by ‘strings of fate’ and I felt that this is meaningful as this is the place where everyone goes to register for marriage. SONDER 51 Bencoolen Street, S 189630
This was a group project I worked on in Year 3 and our client was the Centre of Interfaith Higher Learning (CIHL). Located in the busy central district of Singapore, they were looking for interior design proposals for their institute. Over the course of 2 months, we had to work as a team of 5 to produce a feasible design proposal that suits their needs and objectives. Inspired by their flexible mindset towards accepting people from different religions, our main design strategy is ‘modularity’, whereby we aim to design flexible spaces through the use of movable partition walls, doors, and furniture to accommodate a plethora of functions.

MODULAR WIRE GRID SHELVING
Here are the modular design elements in level 3. The pivoting doors are installed for the multi-purpose hall to facilitate large crowd movements or if more space is needed for events. This is a flexible solution to change room sizes and create a more efficient way to use floor space. Lastly, the modular wire grid shelving can act as a partition while being able to be sized and shaped according to one’s liking.

LOUNGE
MULTI-PURPOSE HALL
In level 3, I proposed a cafe as coffee has a social element that brings people together, which is important in a place that upholds values of understanding and respect towards people of different religious backgrounds. A mezzanine level is introduced to maximise the usage of vertical spaces and can act as a study area for students. Lastly, we opted for loose furniture so that it can be cleared away to make space for exhibitions or events.
SECRET GEM 3 FULLERTON ROAD S 049215
This is my Final Year Project completed during the last semester of Year 3. The context of this project revolves around the ‘new norm’ the pandemic has brought us, and hope for a better collective future by proposing relevant project intentions that embraces the new norm that is set on stage in this post-pandemic world.
PROJECT BRIEF MARINA BAY | 3 FULLERTON ROAD | S049215
With the issue of being unable to travel for leisure due to the ongoing pandemic, this project looks at how I can design spaces for locals to actively explore our hidden local gems and get to know their homeland in a fresh light. My target audience for this project is families with teenage kids. In relation to my project issue, I chose the Fullerton Waterboat House as my site as it is a place that is not well known by the public, despite being located in the city of Singapore and situated near notable landmarks such as the Fullerton Hotel and Esplanade. Hence, this place is indeed a hidden gem in Singapore.
SITE ANALYSIS OVERVIEW
CONCEPT SKETCHES
According to my research, the wateboat house and glass annex have a contrast, architecturally and spatially. As the waterboat houseis old and made of stone, and the glass annex is new and made of glass. Therefore, I have the idea of designing a space that is able to seamlessly transit from being in a old heritage building to a new and modern glass annex.
Experimenting with possible spatial layouts by drawing lines derived from the architectural characteristics of the waterboat house. Among these 6 possibilities, I picked green to develop further.
SPATIAL LAYOUTING USING FORM DERIVED DURING CONCEPT STAGE
I brought the curved line from glass annex into the waterboat house, as if introducing the new to the old. Simultaneously, a straight line from the waterboat house cuts into the glass annex, indicating the old entering the new. The point of intersection between these 2 lines is at the bridge that connects both buildings together.
