The successful completion of this thesis book is the result of combining research and design. Thanks for having the opportunity to become a member of Manchester School of Architecture and holding the support of brilliant colleages and tutors. First of all, thank the course leader Eamonn Caniffe of the subject for creating excellent learning conditions and meticulous help for us. Thank you to all the mentors of MA A+U, especially Antonio Blanco Poster, who is not only a tutor but also a friend for providing professional help to us in Studio A. 01 INTRODUCTION
IMPACT STRATEGY MOTIVATION OBJECTIVE Under the experience and influence of the studio A ‘How will we live together-Málaga project’, a deep research interest in the historical districts of the city center has been generated.
As an extension of the same research theme, studioB&C discusses the transformation and regeneration of historical districts in the central areas of Chinese cities on the basis of studio A.
We cannot obliterate the true historical process and evolution of life in the historical blocks of the old city in accordance with the rigid standards of "cultural relics restoration"; what we should let the people living in, realize is a kind of subtle and continuous environmental optimization that blends into contemporary demands , Instead of making “movement-like” changes based on certain historical dogma.

03 TIMELINE
WHEN? 14th
As a must pass through the ancient Silk Road, it carried many commercial and trade values. At the same time, many literat came here, leaving behind many legends and ancient poems.
19th
In the war, many heroes sacrificed here, leaving many red cultural memories.
20th Old Street is the most preserved residential buildings and shops from the Qing Dynasty. It has high historical value, cultural value and emotional value of old Kunming.
21th The area of old streets has shrunk, and traditional buildings have been dilapidated and can no longer satisfy the lives of modern people. There is a surge in tourists in the central area of the city, and it is difficult to weigh the interests of residents and tourists.

04 SITE EXSITING PHOTO
The compact and porous living spaces are placed together in a articulated and customized way blurring the threshold between public and private spaces.
The ground floor acts as a crucial element of the living community with high interation of the streets. The diversity of commercial spaces present a lively neighborhood around the block.

Based on the existing high building density of the site, the new general plan no longer constructs new buildings but uses and renovates existing buildings efficiently. Inject more new functions to change the previous single-use situation and enhance vitality. Some buildings with damaged structures and no use value are abandoned to provide more public space and internal accessibility.
