PARADIGM SHIFT
JIAN VERN NG ARCH 606 FINAL REVIEW
My project is intended to create inhabitable and desirable space taking advantage of the site’s location, enhancing movement along the bike paths/Riverwalk, and making use of the restrictions created by the Land Use Bylaw. My research of the site’s vicinity shows that the area under the overpass is currently an underused and undesirable space, where bikers and homeless persons gather. The Riverwalk to the north is a social corridor that ships pedestrians and bikers long the Bow River. Dermot Baldwin Way is a more modest edge, used as a shortcut between 4th Avenue and 4th Street. Based on that research, I propose a youth/young adult therapy and learning center that: Generates vertical movement and creates moments of intrigue within. Creates a core membership component where youth can learn life skills and promote their crafts. Links private, public, and health spaces within the building, joining, crossing, and weaving them together.
