A Stark Comparison in Once United – North and South Korea The tale starts with the usual phrase- once upon a time! It was the time when there was no dispute in the Korean Peninsula. As it is surrounded by the great powers like Japan, Russia and China the invasion and domination ruled it for several centuries.

Right from the 11th century till the 19th century it has been invaded by some or the other political power or nation. Though its independence finally approached during the world war two yet it was at the cost of the creation of two separate political entities by tearing the one- Korea. North and South Korea went on two distinct paths from then onwards. The northern part accepted the political ideologies of the Communist Soviets while the southern had the ideologies of the US democratic forces.

Here is a small comparison of the two nations:Religion and Ideology: The northern part has clear guidelines to be followed in the name of Kim Il Sung. Juche is the religion followed in this country as even the education system there introduces Kim and his successors as the ideals to be followed throughout their lives. The death of Kim was broadcasted widely on television where citizens arrived to lay flowers on his feet as if doing it for God. His son is also given the stature of son of God by the system and the people. While in the southern part scenario is different. The dominant religions there are the Buddhism and Christianity which are followed religiously by the majority of the believers. Administration, Development and Military:

After the division the North has become a poor and poverty stricken nation. Its theory of self sufficiency did not allow any other ideology to intervene and thus progress accordingly. As a result the nation is still underdeveloped in many senses. Although it is one of the countries with high levels of corruption and poverty yet on the other hand North Korea has turned out to be superior in the military equipments and personnel as compared to the South. South Korea on the contrary has become a major economic powerhouse with world renowned companies like LG, Samsung and Hyundai but lacks behind in terms of military powers from the former but compensates well with the immense support from the US for the same. Both the nations have rivalry since their division and have no set levels for the hatred. So let us see what is there in the coming future for these two and the associated powers as well.
