If the sameness of use is shown candidly for what it is-- sameness-- it tooks monotonous. Superficially, this monotony might be thought of as a sort of order, however dull. But estheticaly, it unfortunately also carries with it a deep disorder: the disorder of conveying no dirction. -- Jane Jacobs, < the Death and Life of Great American Cities >

01 FLUSHING CHAIN-STORE Chain Activity System for Senior Flushing immigrants

GSAPP F21 Advanced Studio V Group Work Academic December, 2021 Collaborator: Yuening Jiang, Bisheng Hong Instructor: Phu Hoang Flushing, New York

Though as the majority of Flushing immigrants, the seniors' living environment exists problems. The lack of activity space and the change of land property rights have brought many conflicts, such as the "McDonald's incident". To meet seniors' weekly needs and the quality of space, we proposed a system along Main Street providing multiple social and commercial activities in 3 architectural scales due to the current narrow and long lot. The small house provides semi-exterior space for senior sport. The medium combines retail and diverse businesses for seniors. The large is designed to be a senior dating center which is also mixed with activities for other generations to promote intergenerational communication. The spatial strategy consists of core, semi-space, and void. Core is the vital element, divided into vertical-circulation core and senior-activity core. Semi-space is an uncertain space for both senior activities and businesses for other generations. Using the movable walls, the size and arrangement of space can be easily changed according to multi-generation use. Void is the gap bringing light and ventilation, also adjusting temperature in all seasons. The outstanding performance in thermal and energy efficiency of crosslaminated timber ensures the architecture is in a low-carbon and ecofriendly status.

02 UNFOLDED HOUSING Overnight Accommodation for Coastal Track Walkers

The Final Studio of the Undergraduate Degree in UNSW Individual Work Academic November, 2018 Instructor: Wendy Lewin Course Convener: Glenn Murcutt Little Bay, NSW, Australia

The balance between architecture and nature is always a deep field for architects to explore. With the rapid development of urbanization, modern architecture constantly breaks through the bottom line of development scope and invades the original ecological natural environment. This project aims to be an anti-urban regional house. The site is located next to the beautiful little bay, with the sea and mountains, bringing together some of Australia's most distinctive natural elements. Travelers enjoy the sweat in the daytime and adhere to returning after enjoying the beautiful landscape of the mountain and ocean, arriving at the house in the evening to find a warm reliable replacement. I hope to go as far as possible to reduce the pristine forest house, rather than allow travelers after leaving the reinforced concrete forest and fall into a new modern building, repeat them in the modern city of repeating construction experience. When I showed Glenn my initial design plan, I clearly remembered that he said 'It is too urban'. In the process of program modification, I tried to give up those fancy operation techniques and seek a simple and extreme peace. These simple spaces are what travelers really want to experience after they leave the city that they are used to staying in.

03 ROTATIVE PARK Application of an Infinite Loop Tensioned Membrane System

Graduation design of the Undergraduate Degree in Tianjin University Individual Work Academic June, 2020 Instructor: Zhen Xu, Ye Zhang Tianjin, China

Based on the social background and the current situation of architecture development, architectural students should use the accumulated architectural knowledge to think about the connotation and extension of architectural design in a digital city. Architecture is not only regarded as the core value, but should be combined with architecture, graphics, computer science, mechanical design and other fields to connect dynamic data with architecture, so as to form multi-dimensional digital design. My core concept is the design of perceivable children's urban space installations. Through data collection and perception of children's behavior, the device space will be positively influenced, and the activity space suitable for children will be created. Through this device, children can put down their electronic devices and engage in games that can generate social and athletic behaviors, so as to regain the interesting and unsophisticated childhood experience. In addition, by integrating different crowd problems in the traditional residential community, the space installation can be compatible with children's activities and residents' rest, creating interactive space for sharing.

Architecture Design Studio Work Individual Work Personal July, 2019 Instructor: Le Luo Tianjin, China

In city life, the daily needs of citizens are trivial and complicated. But now many places have been pre-designed to define patterns and situations for use. An art gallery is traditionally thought of as an orderly and quiet place. This is separate from the life of a certain part of the market. The combination of lively markets and quiet galleries will make a difference to both. In this design, I studied the development history of the art museum and the market, summarized them, and sorted out the appropriate combination methods. The art gallery and the market are nested and developed together. Flexible space has always been my preference in design, because flexible large space can break the limits set by many scenes and change with the mood of the users.

45

Living Needs and Spiritual Needs One of the problems faced by urban residents is how to create more public places available in the limited urban space. For the citizens, material needs and spiritual needs are growing. There is a need for both exhibition space around the site and a sheltered space for open-air, self-organized markets.Combining the two and viewing paintings from different angles in a busy market seems to be a new solution. 05 EDUCATION SUPERMARKET Algorithm and Continually Transformed Society of Learning

Architectural Design Studio Work Individual Work Academic April, 2019 Instructor: Zhen Xu, Xuehai Bai, Ye Zhang Tianjin, China

The development mode of "education supermarket" in the form of university campuses corresponds to the trend of lifelong education and school-running bodies in the future. In the context of the information age of globalization, people expect to have more and more independent choices and convenient access to higher education, so in the future, urban complexes that are similar to the current urban commercial centers or transportation hubs and dominated by educational functions will emerge. This urban complex will be built on the basis of fast and convenient provision of multiple educational services, integration of multiple urban functions and intensive construction. The site selection in the city center is usually in the form of "giant structure" of a single building.Public exchange activity place is the core of spatial form organization of educational urban complexes. In addition, urban complexes should completely rely on the adjustment of the education market and industrialization operation. All kinds of new experiential education methods can find suitable material carrier space here. By using Processing, I made a dynamic simulation of the structure relationship of the campus in the software, which was corresponding to the section space composition, so as to obtain a sustainable building plan.

The First Level Core: Library The library has the irreplaceable core position in the general campus. As the core space in the center of the whole education supermarket, it plays an important role in connecting and aggregating the upper and lower levels. It is not only a place where people gather, but also functionally meets the needs of the whole discipline.

The Third Level Space: Blocks

Third level of space and second level of standards as well. The first level core Spaces are interconnected. The third level space is the most active interdisciplinary area in the education supermarket, which provides users with more communication opportunities by sharing space among different subjects.

The First Level Core: Ground Floor The ground floor provides ample communication space as a plaza open to the city. It also takes on the function of the core traffic layer, connecting the first and second levels of space through three core tubes to form a treelike structure.

The First Level Core: Lecture Hall

The lecture hall floor is located underground, reducing the intersection of traffic lines. In the framework of the education supermarket, it can be closely connected with the underground city public transportation to achieve a more open communication network.

05 LOST IN HONGQIAO Hongqiao Railway Station Waiting Hall Renovation

Architecture Design Studio Work Group Work October, 2019 Collaborator: Aijia Wang , Ye Liu Contribution: Preliminary Research, Conceptual Design, Modeling, Analysis Drawing, Plan Drawing Instructor: Le Luo Shanghai, China

Shanghai Hongqiao railway station is the largest railway station in eastern China. However, due to its huge volume and interior design with few decorations, tourists have a poor sense of experience in it. Shanghai Hongqiao railway station for most of the shopping, dining and other functions more available for passengers to kill time to arrange the arrival of the underground layer, set out on the ground floor is the waiting bench array storeys high, dining room and shop only in very small amounts of small sandwich, lead to waiting area gives a person the feeling of hollowness phobia, and restaurants and stores spatial concealment and can accommodate traffic is too small. At the same time, travelers also have the need to rest, surf the Internet, work, and take care of children. Therefore, in this design, we added three large volumes and a series of small volumes to enrich the above functions. In the design of insert dimension we adopted the concept of "double deck", insert dimension space to experience similar to conventional building, is the starting layer "indoor" part, while keeping the wicket and waiting bench set off part of the space is still a senior high is "outdoor" part of the layer, two contrasting space feeling, make the space of the starting station layer more pleasant feeling.

69

Through the comparison before and after the renovation, we can see that the waiting hall of the station has a more rich level. While waiting, passengers can have different spatial experiences in different inserted architectural volumes, which also make the open lobby have different levels of nodes. In this way, the whole space can be used in a more diversified way as a large urban public space, and the utilization rate of space in the vertical dimension can be improved.

I believe in the importance of a role that anthropology plays in the development of architecture. In addition to architectural design, I tried to explore diverse fields of architecture during my undergraduate study. The local construction experience in the Chinese countryside, the construction experience of special materials, the mapping of ancient buildings and the research based on parameterization are all unique experiences. These rich experiences, on the one hand, made up for what I could not learn in the process of design studio, and on the other hand, deepened my thinking about architecture.

This project is in the preliminary design stage, which aims to design a factory integrating production, processing, tourism, design and research for the traditional bamboo weaving technology of Daoming in Sichuan province, so as to protect the traditional culture and promote the local economic development. During the internship, I had the honor to participate in the whole process of this project from scratch, and participated in the design and drawing process. I have been involved in the progress of design and drawing of all the renderings shown here. This internship allowed me to participate in the design of practical project for the first time, and I realized that the fundamental design of architects relies on function and structure.

Concept

Perspective

The main concept of this project is to breathe in a new contemporary design in a traditional rural context. That is, to make a collision between the old and the new. The current greenery found on the location is considered as a huge, unused resource which needs to be cultivated, becoming the main characteristic of the future building. The green forms and terraces on the terrain are reflected as a natural element, appearing on the rooftop of the building. Considering the orientation of the future building, it is open towards the southern part, covered in glass, creating beautiful views towards the exterior of the house while creating an intimate space in front. Also, the house being oriented and open to the southern part respects the traditional idea of what is the best orientation, providing light and natural heat throughout the whole year. Moreover, the house is designed to be part of a bigger system, that is, the surrounding neighborhood and also to reactivate rural tourism, meaning that the users of the house could be a family, but also occasional visitors. Overall, the concept of the house strongly follows the context around it, while opposing and blending with it at the same time through an eco-friendly design which fully respects nature.

Construction and Details At the beginning of the design, we have conceived two possibilities: wood structure and steel structure. After understanding the situation on site, it is found that wood processing is more difficult, steel structure material is more convenient and sufficient. At the same time, we consulted the construction engineer on the construction site for structural problems. Considering the stability of the foundation, the convenience of on-site processing and the construction speed, the steel structure was finally adopted. Considering the problem of glass facade processing, we used facade division as the source of steel structure modulus. The roof and floor extend in accordance with the modulus.During the design process, we repeatedly modified the details of the steel structure to maximize its efficiency. The Construction Site

Monomer generation logic On the basis of the most widespread barchan dune in nature, it can be observed that the star dune is a collection of barchan dune spreading in different directions. By referring to the formation process of star dune in nature, it can be concluded that the ridge of star dune is approximately perpendicular to the main wind direction.

Taking the famous Snowhouse building in Heilongjiang as the prototype, the form is abstractly summarized to form the curved surface logic. In appearance, the upper and lower symmetrical form is adopted to simulate the reflection state of the ice surface. In the space, the vertical change of the space can be felt from the outside and the curved space of the inner vault can be felt from the inside. Also we tried to combine interactive lightning device with this snow constrction to increace its interest. We use Arduino in this project to use several sensors to create light changes when people approach the gate.
