Studio O+A | 2016 | Team: Primo Orphilla, Verda Alexander, Neil Bartley, Jill Gentles, Olivia Ward, Chase Lunt This Kimball showroom lives in the heart of New York City; therefore it has the potential to serve the design community that surrounds it as a tool for designers to ultilize. The central library hub anchors the almost completely open floor plate and was the main architectural compon1ent. It provides a variety of storage and display methods for not only Kimball product, but also the latest finishes for the most innovative palettes. Any designer is welcomed to this space and encouraged to leave behind a piece of their process to inspire others. left | view of showroom from main entry | centered beyond the lounge grouping is the material hub for product display/storage and for local design community use above | detail shots of the material hub show millwork and finish display details | a mixture of custom furniture was paired with a range of Kimball product to create a diverse group of collaborative settings

Tech Zone
Palo Alto, CA
Studio O+A | 2017 | Team: Lisa Bieringer, Joseph Rodriguez, George Craigmyle, Jill Gentles, Nicholas Escalante Light at various sized apertures is the driving force in this design for a client who uses technology to propel itself into the distant future. For a large 4 building campus located in Palo Alto, this concept manifested intself in sometimes bold moves shown here in the cafe and more subtle elswhere depending on program. Light is also used to highlight sleek and refined finishes executed in a most futuristic but comfortable way. left | view into main servery area from cafe entry; each kiosk is its own destination; the approach was to design them individually to perform in a way they would be functional per their programmatic needs above | pizza kiosk with custom copper clad oven and built in dish storage; view of serveries from dining hall; sketches showing design process and focus to make each unique

Abaca SF
1201 Tennessee, san francisco, ca
Studio O+A | 2017 | Team: Dani Gelfand, John Schramm, Jill Gentles
A new housing development located in San Francisco’s Dogpatch neighborhood looks to its maritime past while defining a new aesthetic. Sea glass shelving, rope signage, brass details and light ash are all nods to a nautical reference and furniture was no exception. The shared amenity spaces use warm and familiar textures to welcome home the tenants and make the space feel as though it were their own.. left | a central lounge and coffee bar of the main lobby space; each piece of furniture and accessory piece was selected to coordinate with the design concept as well as be practical and comfortable for tenants above | snapshots of amenity spaces including the main lobby and shared bar/ lounge space

Chloe Flagship Store
W hotel Austin, TX
Design 4 | University of Texas | Spring 2013 | Clay Odom
The CHLOE flagship store began with inspiration from their 2013 Spring clothing collection. I found the simplicity of form and delicate patterns to be the most fascinating aspects of the line and emphasized these qualities in every detail. left | rendering of corner entrance to store; the interior geometry extends through the exterior glass to capture the attention of passersby left | plans; lower level contains entire retail component divided into accessory display, clothing display, and shoe display; a large portion is given to the employees for office space and storage; mezzanine level provides an area for tailoring and fitting above | sections and elevations rendered with soft qualities of light and material to imply materiality

Developed through process sketches and having no idea of what kind of design was actually attainable in one semester, this small side table took on many forms and ended looking like a happy Lily Pad thing. Working with African Sepele sourced from a local lumber yard, a deep understanding of the propoerties of wood was gained. Taking rough lumber and milling it to a clean state is one of the more satisfying things in life, but creating something with your bare hands that has fuction in its beauty is even more fulfilling.

Elder cabinet
Inspired by the craft and attention to detail instilled by my late grandparents, the Elder cabinet is a testiment to the impact they had on my life. A cabinet designed for a collection was the objective; my cabinet houses my grandmother’s collection of button and spools of thread. Every detail from the miter keys to the dovetail drawer slides had my grandfather’s precision in mind. above | detail shots of the “crack” on the exterior door; carefully aligned and mix-matched drawer front; detachable turned legs; overall shot with door open right | technical drawing of initial deisgn with full image of final piece

Chairity Stool
Studio O+A | Project Color Corps Benefit | Fall 2017 A chair from the 1980s that looks like it came out of a courtroom can be rather un-inspiring (see sketch to right). Our team chose to give this chair a new life and give it a bit of a twist; or weave rather. right | sketch of original chair design; above are images of final piece
