Fillmore Street San francisco
Located in a popular shopping district in San Francisco, this photography studio has a retail component (rendered to the left) on the ground floor and a gallery space for photographers. A wooden tube pierces through the center of the building providing circulation to each of the three floors and access to five seperate photography studios. A library flanks the sides of the third floor with study/lounge spaces in between sections of books. The design is based around a series of image montages based on generated, filtered and open light sources. These three conditions coexist within the space through light tunnels that penetrate through all levels, layers of verticle fabric and LED light strips installed between the wooden panels of the central truss.

Chloe Flagship Store //

design 4 university of texas / spring 2013 / clay odom
The CHLOE flagship store began with inspiration from their 2013 Spring clothing collection. I found the simplicity of form and delicate patterns to be the most fascinating aspects of the line and emphasized these qualities in my design.

grasshopper wall system design media 3 / fall 2013 / kristen smith
Drawing inspiration from Corbusier’s Ronchamp windows, I used 3D modeling software Rhino and Grasshopper to generate a wall system controlled by several parameters controlling the density, size, and angle of the modules.

lightness Study
materiality and space 3 / fall 2013 / rebecca katkin An abundance of acrylic orbs once used for light fixtures were donated to our studio for us to disect as we wished. I chose to cut the orb into a eight equal slices (top image) and sand blast each piece to vary the opacity thoughout. The acrylic pieces were layered to achieve a feathered aesthetic and emphasized more through LED strip that backlit the system. Felt was applied to give the impression that the pieces were tucked into a wall pocket.

wood studies Wood working is a passion of mine and anytime I have the opportunity in school to use it. These are a few small scale projects I’ve done to improve on my craft, and practice various techniques.

Muni BREATHE What do San Franciscans love about Muni’s Electric Trollies? The logo, but that’s about it. For this project, I embraced the Muni logo and created a graphic pattern along the sides of the bus to further emphasize the iconic symbol. Also, I used the geometries of the logo in the interior of the trolley to make the vessel a living and breathing machine. above / interior rendering of the bus right / plan, rendered section elevation, and graphic diagram showing walled seating change over time to accomodate for flux and flow of passengers
Bart Moire Bart MoirĂŠ is ultimately a workspace for commuters and a spectacle for everyone else. Circluation was improved by adding falcon winged doors on both sides of the system. This allows easy access on and off the cars as well as more interior space. A curvilinear structure also serves as a divider between standing workspace and seating. right / rendering of BART with falcon wings opened for exit below / rendered plan, section elevation and falcon wing diagram
SF Ferry Forecast The San Francisco ferries provide business professionals, local families and those visiting the city a more relaxing experience than the traditional car, bus, or train. I capitalized on San Francisco’s unique weather conditions and reflected these throughout the boat as well as other educational factors bringing an entirely new brand image to the ferries. left / plans and rendered section elevation right / interior rendering of lower deck workspace, looking into ocean floor topography simulated with concrete spheres below / interior rendering of upper deck seating

From the intial studies, to the wooden press tool, to the final assembly with the ceramic tiles sewn onto the fabric - each new step relied on the previous to move forward.
