Following the alphabet this book uses poetry and expository text to pay tribute to the Stanley Cup with topics that include Cup history and records, famous team captains, nail-biting finishes, as well as unique traditions. 9781585369720
9781585367948
Where was the first organized indoor hockey game played? When did the tradition of engraving winners' names on the Stanley Cup start? Which six brothers collectively played in more than 5,000 NHL games? Answers to these questions and many more can be found in H is for Hockey: An NHL Alumni Alphabet. Formed in 1999, the National Hockey League Alumni Association is affectionately known as "Hockey's Greatest Family" for good reason. Members of the NHL Alumni are considered hockey ambassadors, supporting the game and its history through many charitable causes and programs. Written by one of the game's foremost historians, this book pays tribute to them and the sport they love. Adding a personal touch are the memorable quotes sprinkled throughout the text. When 17-year-old Sidney Crosby was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2005, he said, "This is amazing. It's been a lot of hard work and a lot of sacrifices. It's unbelievable!" The great game of hockey is introduced from A to Z using simple language for the youngest reader. Topics include fans, goalie, ice, and jersey. Detailed artwork brings the game's action to these sturdy, boardbook pages.
9781585368914
Thick, sturdy pages combined with short, easy-to-read sentences introduce young hockey fans to numbers found at the game, from two goalies to eight ticket stubs. Crowd favorite Hat Tricks Count now skates in as a new boardbook, Hockey Numbers. Young sports fans see numbers everywhere from the 2 goalies to 8 ticket stubs and the number of pucks in the final net!

A new baby in the family means a lot of changes--from late night diaper changes to learning new ways to play--but in this sweet offering from Brad Sneed, baby tells their older sibling just what to expect. This is a heartfelt celebration of those first months with baby and the genesis of the sibling bond. 9781534110717 SRP $22.99 “The joys and difficulties of adding a baby to the family are detailed in this sweet tale. The text unfolds from the point of view of a new baby, giving readers an inside perspective on the things a baby can’t do—like catch the ball an eager older sibling tosses—and the wide range of things a baby can do: watch, listen, and, of course, cry. A tender relationship between the siblings blooms from their first encounter, when the baby muses, “I’ve been waiting a long time to meet you.” The older sibling is warmly portrayed as a role model, teacher, and friend, the text never skipping over the loud and exhausting elements of life with a baby. The tiny protagonist reminds readers that while babies need a lot of help from their parents, they need it from their older siblings, too. One double-page spread depicts the exhausted parents, older sibling, and even dog collapsed on the couch, recovering from all that helping. Over the course of the story, the baby grows and changes and shows off the new skills gained once “I am…less new.” The baby, now a toddler, can now catch that ball and actively play with the older sib, the illustrations charmingly depicting the changing, still-affectionate relationship.

They might worry that no one will like them or that they are too different to find a friend. In this sweet board book, the narrator lists all the ways children can be different from a prospective friend: "I wake early. You''re up late. My hair''s curly. Yours is straight. Life is much more fun that way." 9780824918774 Board Book A shamrock-shaped board book by the author and illustrator of ABCs of Halloween, just in time for Saint Patrick''s Day. What good is a pot of gold if you can''t remember where you buried it? That is the precise question on the mind of this frustrated little leprechaun, whose mood could not be more glum as a result. He follows rainbows in vain each afternoon and fiddles sad songs alone in his cottage at night. But in the midst of his frantic searches for his pot of gold, he happens upon a big, fluffy dog he names Goldie and then a beautiful cat, Rainbow. What he discovers along the way is something much more precious than gold -- true friendship, what he has really been searching for all along. This sweet tale of friendship and luck is illustrated with the detailed, lush paintings of Patricia Reeder Eubank. Ages 2-5. 9781546034384
Teach little ones all about love with this sweet board book. Adorable animal characters model patience, kindness, and other qualities of love, based on the "love chapter" from 1 Corinthians 13.
9781546034582
As a mama bear and her cub observe the other animals around them, they see them acting with patience, kindness, selflessness, and other attributes of love. A daddy duck waits patiently for his ducklings; a hen selflessly shelters her chicks from the rain; a beaver perseveres to finish the work on a lodge for his family. Through the caring actions of the animals, children will see that love is not just a feeling--it is also something we do.
Perfect for all children experiencing loss or grief, A Flood of Kindness gracefully confronts difficult feelings and celebrates the healing power of kindness. "The night the river jumped its banks, everything changed." So begins A Flood of Kindness, a poignant picture book that addresses grief and loss and demonstrates how kindness can bring hope. Written in spare prose and told from an intimate first-person point of view, the story follows Charlotte, a young girl who watches floodwaters rise in her home and is forced to evacuate to a shelter with her parents. Kind people she doesn't know give her food, socks and shoes to keep her feet warm, and a place to sleep. As Charlotte adjusts to the shelter--a strange, crowded place that is not home--she grapples with feelings of anger and sadness. But as the days go by, Charlotte starts to realize how grateful she is for the things that she does have--her parents, a cot to sleep on, food to eat--and starts looking for ways to help others in the shelter. All children deal with sadness and loss in some way, whether it stems from a natural disaster, the death of a pet, or moving to a new place. A Flood of Kindness acknowledges those difficult feelings and helps readers process them in a healthy way. Children will be encouraged to be kind to those who need a friend and to help others in whatever way they can, no matter how small.

9781546013822 All kinds of vehicles take breaks, naps, and snoozes--but not bulldozers! Dozers don't need to go to bed, at least that's what the bulldozer who narrates this humorous book thinks. The self-assured dozer brags that it doesn't need sleep, but gets sleepier and sleepier as it lists all the other vehicles that do need rest: race cars make pit stops, trains stop in their tracks, tractors hit the hay, and more. The conclusion to Dozers Don't Doze, in which the dozer ultimately dozes, will entertain little ones and please parents; the illustrations of sleepy machines may even lull children to sleep despite their own efforts to resist dozing.
Exploring the idea of connecting over distance, whether it's through a pane of glass or across a continent, this book delivers its earnest message in a lighthearted way, engaging children's imaginations in thinking of delightful new ways to say "hello." The book will remind them that they are loved by those they can't always see. Instead of emphasizing what we can't do when we're apart, this book takes a positive view and makes a game out of finding new ways we can communicate. 9781546013839

We Chose You was written to communicate to all children, whether birthed or adopted, that they are chosen. That they are secure. That they are loved. This is a message every child needs to hear.
Austin loves playing flag football for the Trentwood Tigers. There is only one problem. His team has lost six games in a row, and he doesn't like losing. At his next game, Austin's teammate has a plan to trick the other team. It works, but Austin knows his team cheated to win.
Let this book give you the words to tell your child about your family's unique story. nd anyone in love with a boy, little or big, who dreams of lazy days with bullfrogs and buddies.
Coach Tony and Coach Lauren remind Austin the most important thing about football isn't winning—it's playing fair. When his team takes the field for their next game, will Austin choose to cheat again, or will he stand up for what's right? What would you do if you were in Austin's shoes?

Carson loved basketball practice with the Trentwood Tigers until Daniel, the star player, started showing off and hogging the ball. When Daniel refuses to pass to Carson during a drill and then makes fun of him, coach Tony and coach Lauren remind Daniel to have a better attitude. But the team, including Carson, is still upset with Daniel. Things get worse at Trentwood’s next game when Carson’s teammates hurt their chances of winning by not passing to Daniel. As Carson sits on the bench, watching his team fall further behind and Daniel getting more frustrated, he knows he has a choice to make. Will he continue to be angry at Daniel or reach out to him?
