Preface Through the Windshield is my contribution to Solo Photo Book Month. Go to www.sofobomo.org to learn more about the project. My original plan was to do a book on the Steel Bridge in Portland. My real job got in the way. I switched projects, even if I couldn't get in a daily walk to the bridge I still had to drive to work .

The idea came from Sarah. She bought a point and shoot and started taking pictures from her moving car. It seemed like a good idea so I stole it. Through the Windshield is nothing like my original Steel Bridge conception. It's looser, quicker, more random and less controlled than my other work. I take several different routes to work depending on whim, weather and traffic flow. The pictures to work and back home are based more on relative distance than line of travel. My thanks to Paul Butzi for the enticing rational limitations of SoFoBoMo, Sarah for thinking out side of the car, my fellow commuters for not honking, saluting or slamming into me while I was shooting/driving and to the beautiful, interesting ever changing city of Portland Oregon.
