MANUEL KNAPP NEW SCULPTURE
“Since 2012 strings rule my artistic world. There is a deep personal respect for the material concerning its strengths and weaknesses. It is satisfying both my natural need for fast working progress and the option to go into detail up to mental and physical exhaustion. The characteristics of the strings have immediate influence on the physical appearance of the work itself. I try to recognize these boundaries and to be inspired by these restrictions in a limitless space of possibilities. The work is focusing recurrent topics like geometric symmetries, 3D-drawings, perspective and the human visual cognition. I like the unusual combination of scientific theoretical research framed by simple handcraft materials.”

I cut the backplate diagonally and folded it slightly, which creates a volume with two high corners and two low corners. The strings run both vertically and horizontally, meeting at the corners where the highest and lowest points converge in a continuous sequence.
