Prospect Lefferts Garden

Midwood I would walk past this house every day on my way to and from school. It has a beautiful garden in the front, upkept meticulously by the older couple that lives here. Sometimes I would imagine living here, especially lounging on the wrap-around porch in the summertime. On clear days, the white paint would glow in the morning light.

Washington Square Park This was taken on one of the first warm days this spring. For a long time, people would talk to me about the “liveliness” and “energy” of the city. I never really felt this. On this day, liberated from winter, one in a mass of bodies remembering what it feels like to have the sun beat down on your neck, I understood what others had been talking about all this time. No where else could be as alive as New York on this day, in this moment. I took this picture to remember that feeling.

Nina in Bed-Stuy On a Sunday night, I took the wrong train back from Jamaica. I ended up headed towards a part of the city completely opposite where I wanted to go. After a bit of confusion I decided to transfer to the G train, which I rarely use. As I pulled into a station, my eyes met Nina’s with surprise. A friend I wouldn’t normally see without planning to, Nina was coming home from work. Her train had skipped her stop, serendipitously placing her just outside my train car’s window. She invited me get off with her and eat pasta with her roommate. How could I say no?

Angie and Eva in Eva’s Room Crown Heights This was taken before the three of us went to a party nearby. It was towards the end of the semester, wherein I had gotten to know Eva and Angie. This was a very comfortable, almost intimate time. I remember feeling calm, and really enjoying sitting on the rug while listening to them talk. After the party, I took my bike home on the train.
