The Wild Turkeys of Giles County
The five-foot tall visitor-friendly turkeys you see on our streets say, “Welcome to our Community – We are proud of it!”
What began as a county initiative to celebrate a high state rank in beef production has quickly grown into a regional and state celebration of agriculture as not only a business but also a lifestyle to live, support and respect. Here’s the Beef is an agriculture pride brand that reaches much further than the borders of Giles County. Beef producers, farmers and even respectful consumers enjoy showing support for this great industry. Coupled with a strong state pride in the popularity of displaying Tennessee’s Three Stars, the Here’s the Beef logo can be seen on trucks, tractors, shirts, hats, coolers, cups and much more. “We are very excited to take our Here’s the Beef brand across our great state for Tennessee’s State Beef Festival! This pride in agriculture is contagious, and we are ready to spread the word
that Tennessee is serious about beef,” says Committee Chair and Chamber CEO Jessie Parker. The events span three days and vary from educational to social to community vitality and tourist development. Main attractions include: Ag Impact Breakfast Area Farm Tour Producer’s Field Day Farm-to-Table Dinner Stockyard Special Sale Run the Rollin’ Hills 5k & Kid’s Fun Run Campbellsville Heritage Festival Educational Seminars Steak & Egg Breakfast Cow Pie Bingo Jerky Competition Lookin’ So Bovine Cattle Parade Cooking Demonstrations Cattlemen’s Fall Heifer Sale Downtown Community Jamboree
They are the brightly painted, molded – fiberglass ambassadors for a local group who wanted to find a way to raise funds for a good cause and spark community awareness. One of our most interesting resources in Giles
County is the real wild turkeys, which can often be seen on our pastoral hillsides in flocks of up to fifty! So, it was decided to celebrate this noble bird; and in 2004, through the generosity of the sponsors of each Turkey (you will see their “Wild” Turkeys proudly displayed) a Leadership Program for the Youth of Giles County was born.
