NEWS AND NOTES BLAZING THE TRAIL: Entering his fourth season with the Trail Blazers, Terry Stotts was hired as the franchise’s 14th head coach on August 7, 2012. Stotts led the Trail Blazers to a 51-31 record in 2014-15 and has compiled a 138-108 record in three seasons with Portland. Stotts notched his 100th win as the head coach of the Trail Blazers on Nov. 30, 2014 against Minnesota, making him the eighth coach in franchise history to lead Portland to at least 100 wins. He was named the Western Conference Coach of the Month in December after guiding Portland to a 13-3 record. Stotts led the Trail Blazers to a 54-win season in 2013-14, marking the largest improvement in franchise history and the sixth-best record all-time. Portland won its first playoff series in 14 seasons that year, defeating the Houston Rockets in six games and setting up a Western Conference Semifinal matchup with the San Antonio Spurs. The postseason berth was the team’s first since 2010-11. Stotts, 57, has molded Portland into one of the top offensive teams in the NBA, ranking among league leaders in scoring (ninth), free throw pct. (first), 3-point pct. (eighth), rebounds (second), assists (12th) and turnovers (ninth) for 2014-15. Portland’s 106.7-point scoring average from 2013-14 surfaced as the highest franchise mark in 20 years (1993-94, 107.3 ppg).
