Keys to success As soon as anybody outside the company is involved, then you have to provide more information. When a plan is for internal use only, you may not need to describe company history and product features, for example. Stick to the topics that add value, that make you think, that help support decisions. When you involve people outside the company, then you need to provide more background information as part of the plan.

Company Summary The efficiency and productivity of a greenhouse structure is greatly influenced by its design. Also, the initial and long term costs of the facility are effected by the type of materials used. Ridge and furrow houses provide the greatest efficiency in crop production. Aluminum is the most durable and commonly used framing material for commercial greenhouse structures. Double sheets of polyethylene film is the most economical covering material available for Texas producers

Pruduct Description The efficiency and productivity of a greenhouse operation is largely dependent on the type of growing structure used. Since there are many designs to select from, it is important to become familiar with the advantages and disadvantages of each. The following is a brief discussion of commercial greenhouses and their structural components.

Market Analysis Summary ICF helps clients evaluate the cost-effectiveness of buying greenhouse gas (GHG) allowances versus reducing emissions internally—and we help ensure that the offset market opportunities are real, verifiable, additional, and permanent. Using a full suite of tools and analytics, ICF provides clients with recommendations that account for all the GHG allowance and offset market variables, such as the emergence of sector-specific mechanisms and the impact of compliance requirements for non-GHG pollutants.

Strategy and Implementation Summary Heating is a major concern to commercial greenhouse producers. This is due primarily to the costs involved in the purchase and operation of heating equipment as well as the potentially disastrous effects of a poorly designed system. Although solar energy represents a significant factor in greenhouse heating, supplemental systems are a necessity for year round production.

Management Summary Univ. of Md. Extension personnel report that the recent warm temperatures are causing some pest populations to escalate. Thrips are being found in greenhouses on just about all plants. Thrips damage symptoms include white streaks on flowers and speckling on foliage. Growers are advised to do tap tests of flowers and foliage onto white paper to see if thrips are present. Spider mites, which thrive in hot, dry environments, are building up on monarda, buddleia and zinnias. Look for yellow speckling on the foliage. Webbing will also be present on the foliage if populations are high. Fungus gnats are causing vinca and dahlia plants to collapse by feeding at the base of plants. Inspect stems for translucent larvae with black heads. Monitor for the larvae by placing potato disks on the substrate surface and checking them regularly.
