SITELESS: SHANGHAI WEST BANK MEDIA PORT PROJECT TYPE: MIXED-USE & URBAN DESIGN TUTOR: JOHN DOYLE + BEN MILBOURNE This project focused on exploring process based or generative design strategies as an alternative to explicit modes of design production. It aimed to develop design propositions that are not contingent on any one site or context through developing approaches that comprise rule based systems or geometries that are inherently topological. The project culminated in the design of a large scale mixed use project as well as a similar systems applied into an urban scale site design in Shanghai.
inspiration
Getting inspired by the idea of 'rotating' & 'twisting'. I looked into these as architecture form generating process, and explore the architectural quaility and possibility from the process. Through this particular project, using digital design technology, I applied the process to the original form generating and then further testing the process as system in order to build up the whole building and even a city.

CUB DESIGN HUB FOR URBAN CRIME PROJECT TYPE: RESEARCH INSTITUTE & MIX-USED TUTOR: KAREN BURNS This design is a research based project. The design of this project based on research and analysis on the pricing urban issue, urban crime in Melbourne CBD. The project will investigate how the space, programs and research of the Design hub could address issues of urban criminality through creating welcome and safe public space; and in particular for young offenders by providing available alternative night entertaining or educational programs as well as mental health support. The site of the design hub located on Melbourne 'CUB' urban plot. The CUB plot is a proposed urban block with mix-used and high density development.

QUEEN ELIZABETH CENTRE ADAPTIVE-REUSE PROJECT TYPE: HERITAGE / ADAPTIVE-REUSE & MIX-USED TUTOR: PAUL VINEY + PETER SPANU + QINGHUA GUO This project is an adaptive-reuse focused project dealing with a heritage site, Queen Elizabeth Centre, in Carlton, Melbourne. The project based studio involved a two-weeks scholarship awarded trip to Sweden, studying a wide range of conservation techniques in the University of Gothenburg. The site has its historical significance of served as refuge complex for women and children, the buildings on site reflecting the development of the complex during nineteenth and twentieth century. The chapel on site has individual architecture significance as a simple chapel building of early 1880s, Serving a small protestant instituion/ community is reflected through its modest scale and restrained architectural treatment and demonstrating the religiou nature of th work of the refuge. The proposal including an overall adaptive-reuse urban strategy for the site and detailed architecture treatment to one of the buildings in the complex as well as the siginifcant chapel.

During the history, the site has been used as refuge which took care of Women and children. Providing residential, medical care, nursery and mothercraft trainning as well as preschool education. Therefore, the charateristic of whole site as taking care of people and functioning as a complex which provide inter-supported services should be considered as the key to adaptive-reuse at a major level in this project.

The Old laundry building will be adaptive-reused as community school, providing cooking class, music class, painting class, or other 21 classes which will benefit the residents surrounded. The use of the space will be remain almost same on the right hand side of the load bearing wall, and will be used as classrooms, the left hand side of the wall will be use as double volume space used as exhibition for the school project. Old window frames will be used as picture frames. The intervention corridor out side the building will be semi indoor and semi outdoor small depends on the roof finishing. It create the courtyard between the proposed community and small cafe. The additional upper level will be used as library and massively applied the intervention idea through layout, ceiling, as well as interior design and furniture.

Extent the Intervention idea interiorly, use the idea of roof extension to form the interior wall and ceiling as well as interior layout and furniture. However, since the wall originall in the middle is load bearing wall, in this case new structure will be put on first to support the old roof and then input new intervention.
