E-Cleaning Individual work / 2013 This concept is inspired from the experience of looking after my grandpa who is not able to move. During the nursing time, I noticed that it is very hard for him to brush the teeth independently, and most of other patients ignored their tooth cleaning. I found that there might be a common need for the people who have disease that cause them lies in the bed all the time. Additionally, for the youth generation, who'd like to ignore their dental health, the E-Toothbrush can easily and healthily help them keep their teeth in good condition. Youth can even text their friends or post photos to Facebook while the tooth cleaning.

Daily Care unobservable

Daily Care observable

Through daily life observation, I find that some elders and other people lying in bed, such as puerpera, patient after surgical operations, also need the same cleaning and care as normal people. In numerous body situations, sport, skin and excretion are more sensitive for body and easily to be perceived. However, dental health, because of its lack of pain, becomes a blind spot in daily care.

7

Target Group According to the analyse of target group, I find that there are various reasons for lying in bed, so it is hard to define the age, gender and body situation. But the common point of the people who lying in bed is that they can do some simple activities, and have strong will to clean their body.

When light strikes the panel, electrons are generated. These electrons move along the lead wire form the megative pole toward the semiconductor. When light strikes the wet semiconductor, electron are generated (photocatalytic action). Together with the electrons generated at the 01 , and the semiconductor, these electrons move to the inside of the mouth through saliva. (wet source) These double electrons remove the hydrogen ion within dental plaque, allowing the dental plaque to break down, As a result, dental plaque is easier to remove and brushing is more effective, thus promoting healthier teeth and gums.

Autistic FUNiture Individual work / 2012 This project is designed for newiser furniture company to provide the study furniture to autistic children. They want some conceptual design instead of commercial ones to highlight their concern and research of this disease. I designed a see-saw study furniture to put emphasis on the interaction methods between students and teachers.

24

Background

The data published by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, USA in the first half of this year indicated that: in the latest Autism Spectrum Disorder, the morbidity was that there is 1 out of 88 children, the morbidity of boys was 5 times of girls, there was 1 autistic child among 54 boys, and there was 1 autistic child among 252 girls. The morbidity increased 23% than 2009, and no reasons could be found. One of the treatments for autistic children is the communication and education for light or medium autistic children through computers, which is the background that I design children studying furniture.

Psychology case study Fr o m Pr o fe s s o r A. K a T a t T s a n g , U n iv e r s i ty of Tor onto

Professor Zeng once put forward a typical case. The child was seriously autistic, he entered into the room, and his parents were looking at him by the uni-directional glass at the next door. The professor raised up the child to spin as soon as he entered into the room, and the child was very happy. Afterwards, he wanted to leave the room, while the child unexpectedly held his clothes tightly. At the very moment, the parents burst into tears, because the child had never set up relationship with his parents since his birth, even without saying a word.

The case illustrated that even though for the autistic children, they needed games or a close way to set up interactive relationship, same as ordinary children. And this is the element that should be considered in my following design.

27

Design Requirement

Colourful and Sparkling things

Like to be encouraged and raised up

Generally speaking, for children, pleasure originates from external sensory stimulations. For example, children like shiny things, running around and being raised up. Even the children with autism have such requirements, while adults always ignore these requirements because they can not set up normal relationship with the autistic children.

Organic Vege-Mart Urban farming solutions Individual work / 2013 The concept is based on the growing urbanization that people are facing an increasingly artificial world. Correspondingly, people also have the desire to live naturally. People are concerned about how their food has been manipulated and processed before reaching their plates. The “Organic Vege-Mart provides the fresh food and the process is crystal transparency.

34

Background I did a simple research among 20 people, to ask them the information about ORGANIC VEGETABLE. The result inllustrates that most of them have eaten the organic vegetable and they have the eager to buy that. But the problem is that some of them do not know how to distinguish organic vegetables to regular ones, and most of them do not know where to buy the REAL organic vegetable.

I have eaten

I don't know how to distinguish

I will buy

I don't know where to buy

People pay more attention to the safety and quality of vegetable, they would rather buy the organic vegetable than the regular ones which has been exposured to be over-sprayed by chemical fertilizers and pesticides. But we can not 100 % sure that all the organic vegetables sold in market are really organic. So I want to design a market that grow the vegetables transparently to the customers, so they can be assured the purchase.

35

Farm

Vegetable

36

The customers have no idea about where the vegetable come from, and whether it is organic or not.

How to buy it directly? Transportation

It costs extra money and energy to transport the vegetable from farm to another place.

Market

It has the problem that market should pay extra money to store the to avoid being decay.

Customer

Ideation and Sketch I want to design a new farming-shopping system to meet the people's needs, and this is how I imagine what the system will be in the future.

Upcycling Design

Project #1 Waste PVC fracture Splint design Individual work / 2013 The splint is manufactured from PVC tubing, because of its strength and cylinderical shape. PVC is a relatively cheap material and one of the waste material for the upcycling theme. One tube can be very efficiently manufactured into one pair of slings. The product is designed to reflect and protray a designer’s concern for its users, further reflecting the intelligence of design.

42

Design Background

I attended the Sino-UK design project in Changsha May, 2013. With China becoming the “Factory of the World”, the manufacturing enterprises in China are producing numerous industrial leftovers everyday, which have become one of the biggest sources for environmental pollution. Recycling them consumes more energy and results in second time pollutions. Unlike recycling, “upcycling” reuses left-overs as raw materials without second-time chemical or physical processing such as melting, refining. Therefore, “upcycling” can both increase energy efficiency and add value to materials that can’t be recycled through traditional processing methods.

Upcycling is the process of converting waste materials or useless products into new materials or products of better quality or for better environmental value.Upcycling is the opposite of downcycling. Downcycling involves converting materials and products into new materials of lesser quality. In my opinion, upcycling is the way to use waste material to to reinvest in the dead stock through a new way of designing, introducing new functions, new aesthetics and new markets to leftover goods in order to bring them back into circulation. That is what my goal to achive this design. 44

There was a serious earthquake happened in Ya'an Sichuan Province after we got the material information list, over 10,000 people got injured. It reminds me of the Wenchuan earthquake happened 5 years ago. So many people got injured during the catastrophe. Among all the urfently needed supplies, fracture splint is mostly needed of medical appratus. As a product designer, I want to use the character of the material smartly. Further more, I think design can help the people who got injured. The product is designed to reflect andprotray a designer's concern for its users, further reflecting the intelligence of design.

Project #2 Waste marbel Housewares design Group work with tutor and student from Central Lancashire/ 2013 The inspiration for this product range comes directly from a sequence of Taichi movements and aims to capture its values in an entirety and bring them into everyday life through the way people interact with objects and environments within their home.

51

Design Process

We started from the analysis of Taichi postures, the way how people interact with nature and themselves inpired us. So we set up a lots of environment and using scenario before desigm. After that, we got the abstract figures from Taichi postures, and make them into paper model to stick on the waste marble and cut it into particular shapes. All the marble pieces are wasted from factory. Although the pieces are manufacture off-cuts they still poses the same qualities of the original pieces with smooth surface finishes, and naturally rough edges, each piece being unique. 52

Different rooms and objects in the home have different functions and emotional impacts on people, used at specific times of the day, for different reasons, in the same way with which Taichi can make people feel tranquility and powerful at the same time. This leads directly back to the figure designs which get their abstract shapes from specific Taichi postures. Each posture is used for item storage in a room which shares its characteristics, for instance a slow relaxing Taichi movement can be found in the bedroom used to hold nicely scented candles. Each piece has a unique emotion and function, to inspire and courage people to engage in Taichi in their daily routine. 53

Smaller key touch points for wider spaces between the keys.

The concept is to design an ideal qwerty for the girls who fancy nail polishing, because they often break the nails by typing the keyboard, and mistype the keys by the long nail. With this issue we created a quitie silicon qwerty cover, peotect the qwerty, as well as protect the users' nails by adding a sphere. It could also be very personalized to match the nail polished style.

Newiser Design Institute Personal contribution: Redesign concept ideation excuse me...

It is believed that the dumb or the deaf are all normal people, just not so fortune as us. They should be helped to share things with anyone around, and even who do not understand gesture language. Thus a mobile application is designed, to translate the gesture language into a verbal way, at the same time, translate the sound to texts.

this watch has bright colour, and...

thank you, i will take it.

Ivy is dumb, she wants to buy a gift for his brother, but she needs advice from sale assistant.

Parking Assistant As the number of vehicles is on the rise, the parking space is increasingly rare. It is not easy for drivers to be provided with a parking bay straight away when they drive into a parking lot. In finding a vacancy, the parking fee is increasing, more exhaust fumes by repetitive move and stop.
