01 School for the Arts High Performance City Mixed Used Public Programs Senior Design Studio|Fall 2018 Professors: Mark Cavagnero Benjamin Golze

Project Overview: Located at 135 Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco, our project is within the neighborhood of Civic Center. To be embedded in the art community, the design focuses on providing a connection between the residential neighborhood and the civic cultural center. For historic and aesthetic value, the original building which is a city landmark is kept, and the school is designed around it by adding new wings at the back. To make a contrast, glass and steel frame is used here.

02 Good Food Public Commercial Marketplace Mixed Used Agriculture Related Programs Junior Design Studio|Spring 2018 Professor: Keith Plymale

Project Overview: The project aims at supporting needs of urban life by combining many food related programs into one community place at the intersection of Oak St. and Franklin St. The programs can be overlapped and connected in spatial and logical ways. There is a marketplace for commercial use in the first floor, a public library and a research center in the second floor, and also a test farm on the top of the building. My approach to this project is to have public programs placed at the street side to attract people’s attention, and put the circulation and compost system in “gray space”. The building is mainly concrete with glass façade, and wood is used as supporting structure, space division, and interior furniture as a whole.
