I’m a 21-year-old graduate of the University of Melbourne. By doing a double major in architecture and property, I have acquired knowledge from various diciplines and become a versatile person. I believe that my property background, particularly skills in statutory & planning analysis, market analysis, feasibility study, would enhance my speciality in architectural design.

The site is located at the intersection of Royal Parade and Story St. The site is a void which is barely used. Therefore, the ultimate design goal is to bring people in and create socialisations and interactions. In terms of design, I envisioned my project to be an urban green school which copes with the natural environment and makes a great transition from relatively high rise hospitals to low rise residential terrace homes.

The research field of the project is “biomimicry”, as in applying principles of the nature into design. Application of light-emitting material is also required for the project. Our design brief is to design a parametric structure that is highly responsive to the site parameters, provides shadings during the day and lighting during the night. The site is located at the CERES park, a communal environment park that advocates environment protection and sustainability. Therefore, our project made reference to the coral reef, which has been suffering from serious environmental problems such as global warming. GROW The organic form that mimics the corals are developed through “growth”
GLOW Dead corals got bleached and hence looked like “glowing” in the sea, through this way we draw connection to the environmental problem
DAYT IM E
NIGHT-TIM E
During day time, the pavillion is a cozy, comfortable structure for people to inhabitat.
FRONT
Night-time usage is mainly for gathering and events such as music festival, DJ booth or a night bar.

PROTOTYPING A few prototypes are made to test different materiality and connection methods. Digital fabrication methods including laser cut are used.

The project secret was derived from the 3 tectonics. The design agenda is to design a pavilion which hold a secret by creating possibilities and uncertainties within the space. The unpredicability and dazzling would create confusion within the space and prevent people from finding out about the secret.

The materiality of mirror enhances the confusion and dazzling inside the pavilion. It can also be used as a means of camoufladge as well for its redirection of the surrounding environments.
