Design Studio 1 Form Play through multiple explorative workshop that help us to enhance my handmade skill, creative skill, and thinking skill. The journay starts from WORKSHOP 1, a point, line and plane. It start from 1D to 3D volume. WORKSHOP 2 let me understanding about the type of method to enhance my design, Operative Design, also knowing the forms and principles of the model. WORKSHOP 3 look into the volume and space, also understanding the void and solid.

P1A

P1B

Two maquette let me know about what are the point, line and plan And understand how they starting from a point and form into a plane and create a space.

Continue to P1C, I start to design and draw 9 blocks, and create them into real blocks. This help me enhance my creative and handmade skill.

WORKSHOP 2 In this workshop, I start to learn the type of method design which is OPERATIVE DESIGN to improve my original design.

Continue with rearrange them with the 9 blocks I had in P1C from 3x3 grid into 6x4 grid.

Project 2 contain 3 main workshops which are let us understanding athropometry scale, the relationship between human activities and spaces, time and shadow. WORKSHOP 1 is understanding anthropometry, students are requires to capture 15 postures of 2 users and draw them out in A3 cartridge paper. WORKSHOP 2 is understanding the scale. Student explore different scales of human, tree and chair (1:5, 10, 20, 50, 100). WORKSHOP 3 is to ideate simple design idea towards spatial manipulation in response to human activities and time.

_ Scale_ An experiment with scale ‘Making of chairs, human figures, trees with different scales.

Workshop 3

03

_ SPACE | PLACE _ How should space respond ? ‘Modified section with operative design ‘Paper model and Framework.

WORKSHOP 1 This workshop requires

the observation of two users over 24 hours and 15 different postures should be recorded.

WORKSHOP 2 Looks into the experiment with scale. Different scales of

chairs, humans, and trees are made with paper.

Scale 1:5, 10, 20, 50, 100).

WORKSHOP 3 Introduces the concept of space

and how should it respond when it comes to accommodation with humans.

Ideate simple design with different scale of human, tree and chair.

Continue with existing section drawing and 15 human posture.

Modify a new section to make the human have a comfortable space to do their activities.

Project 3 is the Final project for Design Studio 1. Student need to design a Tree Pavilion and accommodate 3 main occasions which can related to the tree. Beside that, these occasions should be carried out without any loose furniture, which student will need to further operate the building in order to achieve functional yet good spatial quality for each of these activities. The tree that we have choose is Fig Tree, and the client will be myself.

CONCLUSION

Throughout Project 1, I have learnt about the operative design, how to draw the plan & section, and also how to casting a mold. In Project 2, I have learnt about the human anthropometry, time and shadow. For Project 3, is the final project that make a tree pavilion for user to have a comfortable and relaxing area to do some activities. It's all about the nature and how a building interact within the tree and space through its shape and use of materials.
