[RE]INTEGRATION
Following rapid urbanization in China, old buildings like the bathhouses were eliminated from the urban imprint along with their social and historical functions. Take Beijing for example, urban renewal including old markets, rural dwellings and hutong neighborhoods imposes not only resettlement of immigrant population but demolishment of the existing community culture. While cities grow more ambitious of updating the urban construction, how to provide affordable housing and jobs for influx of mobile population also emerges as urgent and influential social issues in many developing regions of China. If left unattended to or waiting for effective solutions to come, consequent issues about the disadvantaged group ensue, such as no access to healthcare, children’s education and productive spiritual life will exacerbate social exclusion and potentially increase crime rate. Under tight administrative schedules, mainstream urban renewal projects mostly focus on environmental and functional transformation while ignoring the significance in societal, cultural and historical dimensions. I realized that the core to solve this issue is to develop a communitybased Urban renewal method, genuinely values the residents, human requirements of socialize, and the evolving community culture.

INTEGRATION OF SLUMS AND CITY Site: Caracas, Venezuela Instructor: Dr.Junjie Li ( lijunjie@bjtu.edu.cn )
With the accelerated urbanization and lack of affordable housing, slums in Caracas were spreading along the mountain and gradually encroaching the urban space. The spread of slums has not only appeared in the outskirts of the city, but also in the city center. For example, The tower of David, once symbolizing the economic prosperity of Caracas, has become a vertical slum. Since 2015, lack of water resources has further promoted the expansion of slums and the continuing decline of people's living standards.
2-month Group work in 2019 Spring, Team Leader
This project aims to proposes a prototype of vertical slum which use water resource as a control system to help inhibit the horizontal spread of slums meanwhile improving the living conditions of local residents.

ANTI-MARKET
Antique Market Renewal
BJTU 2019 Autumn Core Studio The antique markets as one special market are distributed in every corners of Beijing. It is not only a place for business transactions, but also a place for residents to socialize. With the process of urban renewal in Beijing, the antique market has gradually declined and lost its popularity. At the same time, the closed interface of antique markets have also hindered the development of surrounding communities. This project aims to propose a mechanism based on community and participation to achieve the revival of antique market and the development of surrounding communities. Through the inheritance of antique market culture and coordination of interests, the integration of space and market is realized in this project.

ANTIQUE MARKET IN BEIJING IS UNDERGOING A DRAMATIC DECLINE City network Since 1949, Beijing has undergone a dramatic change in urbanization, and the wholesale market has also undergone the rise and decline, which of the antique market is particularly evident. From mapping, it is clear that the expansion of urban form and the development of traffic network have promoted the rise of wholesale market. Total markets Mapping in searching invisible factors affecting city transformation Mapping is not a neutral spatial measurement and description tool, but has the functions of construe, construct, and reshaping people's living space. Population and policy, as invisible factors, are play an important role in the development of markets. According to the statistics, the demise of the wholesale market started once Population Dispersion Policy was carried out. So the reduction in immigrant population must be one reason for the fall of antique market.

Tianning Market Renewal
INTEGRATION OF OLD AND NEW
BJTU 2018 Spring Option Studio With the inf-lux of immigrant populations, the diversity of communities in Beijing is increasing. Traditional market fails to meet the increasing need for community development. Meanwhile, the implement of Market Eviction Policy accelerated the process traditional markets' transform. This problem is also existing in Tianning market. Besides, due to the income inequality and cultural difference, social exclusion as an emergent issue is also appearing between immigrants and local residents. This project aims to eliminate social exclusion by the introduction of new urban functions and enhance the community vitality by the integration of multiple activities. Besides, the transformation of existing buildings in historical context is also discussed in this project.

INTEGRATION OF FACADE, STRUCTURE AND SAPCE
UC Berkeley Summer Institute[IN]ARCH ADVANCE 2019 Site: San francisco, California
As the economy growth of san francisco and migration of a large number of people, the number of existing housing cannot meet the needs of population growth, triggering a housing crisis. This project aims to explore the possibilities and design methods of high-density residential buildings by the application of serial technique.Through the folding method, the outer surface helps to form an orderly facade, the inner surface cuts the space and supports the structure of the buildingspace and supports the structure of the building, finally achieving the integration of facade, structure and sapce.
