CHAPTER 8
YOUR FEARS AND HOW YOU SELF-SABOTAGE YOUR SELF-DISCIPLINE EFFORTS Your success in disciplining yourself starts with you. It doesn’t start with your partner, your parents, your friends or even your therapist. Other people can give you advice and steer you in the right direction but if you don’t do anything, if you fail to take action, then nothing’s going to happen. Taking the first step to achieving self-discipline is always the hardest. During the first few days, you’ll probably find yourself resisting your own efforts. Other people around you may not be supportive and may downright ridicule you. But once you learn how to block out the noise and just do what you need to do, then you’re going to find it easier to control yourself and you’ll find yourself growing and moving in the right direction. Recognizing your fears and your weaknesses is important to help you set boundaries. In this chapter, we’ll talk about some of the common fears and weaknesses that plague people who find it hard to discipline themselves.
