Define problem Some aspects of modern life correspond to difficulties when raising a pet. First of all, an increase of single households has led to more people desiring emotional bonds and stability. Second, people want to be comforted at home after a long day with the hustle and bustle of the city. As a result, the pet population is increasing, but along with this increase, a number of other issues arise such as a rapid surge of abandoned animals or lack of responsible owners. The burden of taking care of one life is going to be considered more sophisticated and difficult to handle. 2

Burden of raising a pet
What people want? Pet raising experience However, Certain aspects of modern society have given limitations for some people. How these excluded people can enjoy enthusiastic experience of raising a pet?
Related research From the perspective of pet culture, people want the experience of raising a pet, however various factors hinder them from being able to. So how do people satiate such desire? In most cases, they indirectly participate in taking care of pet through playing games, buying toys, and consuming visual content such as Youtube’s pet channel. Therefore, I decided to develop a concept with consideration to these points: vicarious satisfaction, tangible interaction, and an effective system, applicable to city life. I wanted to choose one way of playing catch with a pet to capture this idea.
How can one Interact with a virtual pet? The main concept can be illustrated as ‘an invisible dog’. The major function is playing catch. This is made possible by setting the initial location and recognizing its owner’s voice. Playing a simple game might be considered a trivial activity, however, for many, this simple interaction can provide a powerful, tactile sense of playing with a real dog. In addition, it’s also possible to take a walk with your invisible dog anywhere. Doing so will capture the attention of onlookers.
Modeling study and testing While determining the visual design, I at first thought that maintaining the look, weight, and feel of an actual ball was the most important factor. On the other hand, since the internal components of the device (mini-drone), air resistance, and weight of ball itself had to be considered, a regular hole pattern and wave pattern were applicable. The final decision came down to a ‘regular hole patterned ball’. After creating a mock-up model with a 3D printer, I conducted a field test and checked the endurance level and operational functionality.

System and motion A compact coding drone was used to realize the rudimentary concept of the product. Although I wanted to implement an active movement pattern that is similar to that of a real puppy, I specifically aimed my focus toward two main functions.
Algorithm of main function
Woofie application The main function of the application is choosing a character, checking its personality and movement, and tracking the user’s activities. It also provides communication functionality such as detecting other users in the vicinity, and sharing their pictures and moods through connected Social Networking Services.

Another enjoyable feature of this ball is that you can choose its personality and outfit like a real pet. Based on the personality you choose in the app, you can customize your pet to be more unique as you can see above. In addition, there are some model pets such as a St. Bernard, Retriever, Poodle, and Pomeranian. Just put each part in the holes and twist, then, it will be perfectly fitted.

Things that stimulate one’s senses usually remain in their memory for a long time. The bubbling sound when cooking, the crumpling of autumn leaves underfoot, the sensation of blowing wind, these kind of senses become a part of us and get stored in our memory. The same thing happens when you use tools. When you write something on a paper with a pencil, when you cut something with a pair of scissors, or that moment you wind the spring of a clock, etc. When you think of a certain object, you can also recall that pleasant sense that you have experienced while interacting with the object. On the other hand, with the development of technology, it is often regarded as a virtue to simplify the process of using a certain tool. When you think of tools in the modern era, many of them now have simple functions and interfaces, with unified mechanisms. While this evolution of tools has the effect of expanding the human ability to greater heights, I think that we are forgetting about the little things that touch our humanistic emotions and senses, those things that make us ‘human.’ I imagined how ordinary tools nowadays would be perceived in the distant future, and what it would feel/look like if we could leave this unique ‘sense of use’ in a certain visible/sensible form.

Idea creation from the future forecast
Design concept and develop
This might be our future. Some tools and objects develop very quickly as time passes by. Based on innovative technology, Some people predict that before too long, driverless cars will become the norm. Thus, driving a car will be considered a unique and privileged experience at some point. With this in mind, I’ve thought of some limitations of this development and whether basic objects can keep its steadfast usage. PRESENT
FUTURE
The Future Dictionary of Objects; It will work as live storybook of dead objects. Like a dictionary, It will explain and show the concept of objects that were used in our era. I projected this question on some fundamental tools that have the instinctive characteristic.
Interaction with Objectionary Through the interactive illustrations on the interface and operation of some parts of the real tool, it will work as an entertainment object. I’ll introduce interactions with four items. When a part of the tool is connected to the main body, it can convey the sense of the object and interactions on screen. For example, when you connect the winder shaped object and turn it, the time will appear. When you connect and use the handle of a pair of scissors, it will function as a timer, representing that it is ‘splitting up’ the time, and a on/off button will allow you to turn on the light. All of this is considered an ordinary interaction between human and object in 2010s, but I will try to frame this from a future perspective.

We can define the present based on the past, and can also predict and shape the future. The most unfailing truth is that every moment can exist as the present since this process is so continual and has all-at-onceness. There is a limit to human capability which leads people to appropriate external forces. Memorizing is the case. Only after few days, memory becomes faint and conviction disappears. However, with continuous attempts to record the memory, it’s possible to have a nearperfect recollection. Some people say that trying to make a note or document actually shows that a person wants to shift the responsibility onto the recording, therefore, allow himself to forget it. On the other hand, there are those of us who definitely have fear of losing our memory. So, we keep trying to record confirmation about an event, emotion, people and things. In Northeast Asian culture, swallowing represents immanence, making it a part of themselves. There is an expression ‘Chewing the dictionary’ that means trying to memorize. Moreover, there are some words related to eating, and we use these with a dual meaning frequently. Starting from here, I wanted to express the meaning of eating in a different context.

Design process To summarize in one sentence, It is a miniature printer that prints out sweets, especially containing one’s inner thoughts. So It could be a toy or a snack dispenser. The overall mood is focused on immanence, accumulation of memories and emotions, and resonance between people. Based on the white tone, I decided to choose the express feeling of simple resonance. In the engineering section, I studied some mini-Bluetooth printers such as receipt printing machines. Thus, I tried to apply the same module in this product. Next image is an explanation of its inner structure and components. Also, I tried to make truly edible tape that consisted of nontoxic ingredients.

Little Helper tries to help busy parents who have young children. This IoT service will encourage children to participate in housework and to build a positive attitude by themselves. If a couple is busy working for a living or being occupied with the stresses of daily life, they tend to worry about their child’s moral education and formation of habits. Thus, when Little Helper inspires children to be good and provide joy, this service can cultivate positive and sustainable habits for children.

Research and problem definition I conducted an opinion poll in the internet community consisting of numerous Korean parents. I made several inquiries about their lives and household (36 couples who have 1–3 children)and gained some insight. Think about the positive effects of children’s engagement in housework. This trend is in need of reformation. In addition, an interesting point about children’s behavior was that they enjoy rewards and recognition for achievements. Based on research, I set up this service’s major goal.
Service structure To summarize it, Little helper is a smart home IoT service which aims at children’s participation in housework and strengthens family bonds. Simply, the overall concept is a bit close to ‘compliment sticker for children’. It’ll encourage children to do small chores, observe their actions, collect data, and give an interpretation for motivation.
Service scenario Based on the interview, I created a suitable persona and formed an appropriate scenario for this system and service. The target user is parents we have little children age 5~12(before middle school).
How to interact with children? Interaction with children is an Important point to engage them and to pursue a sustainable service. In the first step, children and their parents can have a discussion about which housework they will take care of, and simply attach little sensors anywhere that they want. After that, a helper lamp and smart calendar will instinctively inform them of their activities and what to do next at their eye-level.

After completing their work, children can figure out their performance and reward.
Journey map and reward system The fundamental aspect of this service is a reward system. The Information collected from sensors will be calculated as points based on the counting system which is shown in the images below. After this step, It will show their performance expectation separately through the children and parents’ devices. Through the interface, they can check their present state and how much work remains for them to get the next reward. Also, this system is closely related to the ‘Act and Feedback’ step of a journey map.

The chair, Bubble Toc aims to create a more harmonious and satisfactory conversation between strangers who meet each other for the first time. The interactive chair allows the user to keep self-balancing during the conversation. This product assumes the situation of talking with a stranger, and improves the satisfaction and quality of the conversation. It reflects the features of their conversation in real time, thus, it naturally intervenes in unconscious dialogue and gives progressive feedback.

Define problems in having a conversation
How does it work?
It is always regrettable to initiate a dialogue with an unfamiliar person. As you know, you can feel a subtle awkward sense through overall discussion. On the other hand, you might be worried that you have done something disagreeable to your counterpart. The Information graphic below is a study of conversation and communication of first meeting experience among adult males and females. How can we address the imbalance between these personal experiences during conversation?
I intended to use surrounding objects to create a certain condition in which people become aware of their own conversation. I focused on the matter of ‘a conversation monopolized by one person’ and tried to apply an appropriate interaction of product. The method I decided was an intuitive chair, which rises with air, depending on the sheer amount of text during the conversation. If the height of the chair changes, It becomes difficult to make eye-contact. The main goal of this chair is keeping the balance of your conversation which naturally and unnoticably tilts to one side. While sitting on an inflated chair, we’ll try to contact your eyes with others and enjoy this moment of conversation slowly and carefully.

Related research and insight How can we treat this problem by making use of the most modern technologies? I identified some cases which handle natural languages such as conversation to provide convenient services. The bathroom has the most unique characteristic among all the rooms of the house. It is very small, but equipped with many facilities and are continuously exposed to moisture. Also, people want some new experiences in this place due to the increased interest in well-being. In this regard, It was interesting to analyze specific activities by dividing small spaces into even smaller parts and components. I tried to Apply a UX design strategy to develop a more convenient space, and this infographic is about our working process. Planning, developing, and designing the space are organically related.
