The project was designed to be the UNIFOR Veterinary Medicine Training Center, course which started its classes in March 2017.

The building itself was designed to provide the students, a more hands-on experience on learning how to deal and treat farm animals, so a more rustic style was adopted in the architecture that resembles the countryside and regular farm houses.

The roof was adopted as the main landmark of the project, which reaches 8 meters above the floor slab. The choice came from the intention of working with only 2 trims and minimizing the amount of structural pillars needed in the building, reducing from 35 to 20 pillars.

Design of a new building for the university with classrooms for Ed’s Physics and Aesthetics and Cosmetics courses, with a more modern format and contemplating the new Gym of the University of Fortaleza, which includes services such as Spa, Pilates, Martial Arts and Spinning.

Client: Unifor - University of Fortaleza Location: Fortaleza, Ceará - Brazil

The building was designed in a contemporary format, initially adopting the straight lines of modernism with the brutalism of its solid and pure form.

The bulding structure is mixed, where two large concrete blocks are connected by the metallic structure and the glass curtain wall closes the large weight room, with 400.63 sqm of area.

Concept study for a cultural complex with approximately 1000m2 of area, the project consists of a 2000-seat theater and a museum with 5 exhibition rooms and 2 auditoriums, it is divided into 3 floors.

The complex was designed in a compact way according to the university’s philosophy, in which the buildings remain immersed in the midst of the campus trees. Also seeking to bring a unique equipment to the city, with the largest capacity theater in the region.

The basement floor houses the parking lot, utilities and dock area for trucks. The ground floor has access to the Theater and Museum, along with the restaurant and the surrounding squares. The first floor comprises the museum’s administrative areas and exhibition areas.

Few materials were used, seeking a contemporary language such as the use of concrete and glass skin, combined with the vegetation, which does not affect the vehicles that pass on the avenue ahead and also helps to reduce the temperature.

The smaller blocks were designed to keep the language of rustic houses and farms, different from the surgical block that, due to the need for a specialized structure, was designed to be a more robust block, standing out from the others.

Concieving of the complex for the veterinary medicine course consisting of 5 buildings of classrooms, laboratories and a surgical center with capacity for 8 simultaneous surgeries.

Recently, a new building has been built, which is considered as the fourth phase, that will be used for the master’s scientific research with transgenic goats, integrating the students of the veterinary medicine course.

The complex serves the general public as a way for the students to practice their knowledge, while under the supervision of professors. It also has 200 parking slots for students and visitors.

The project was originally divided in 3 phases (Yellow, Green and Magenta), to attend the Veterinary course needs. However, recently, a new building has been built (Orange) for a post graduate scientific research, which can integrate both, researchers and the undergraduate students.

Phases

23

Phase I

The second phase was directed at a large building with 3 analysis laboratories, 1 imaging laboratory with ultrasound and x-rays, providing a room for tomography, 2 auditoriums, 4 rooms for discussion of cases, and a surgical center with 4 surgery rooms, totalizing 2,500 sqm

The initial phase of the complex comprises 2 buildings, prioritizing direct access for services and material deliveries. The first construction called Animal Nutrition (top) focuses on the study, research and production of food for animals. And the second construction, called Pathology and Necropsy (bottom), focuses on the study and analysis of pathologies

The third phase focused on the construction of 2 more buildings especially for the clinical care of small and large animals, aiming to serve the surrounding community by students assisted by their teacher. Both buildings have 500 sqm of built area, each with its own specialty. One for small animals (bottom) and the other for medium and large animals (top).

Phase II

Phase IV

Phase III

The new phase emerged as an opportunity for integration between the master’s and undergraduate courses, allowing students to have contact with academic research on cloning. The building has 360 sqm with a room for small surgical procedures, a laboratory for analysis, a dressing area and a separate place for cloned animals.

The industrial style was chosen because it fits in well within the dynamics designed for the environment, which seeks to remain simpler and purer in materials, colors and installations, and has furniture that is easy to move around, obeying the color palette chosen for the project.

Role: Lead Architect

The project had two simple guidelines, comfort and adaptability, because despite having been initially conceived as a place for relaxation and socialization for the employees that are located in the technological hub of the university, it also required the possibility of transforming this space into a place for small conferences and more informal presentations, thus reinforcing the choice of the style adopted in the design and furniture.

PARKING W/ SOLAR PANEL

With the goal of being both inserted and active regarding accessibility and sustainability, the university’s dean’s office required the construction of a recurring demand from its users, a covered parking lot. This project, while regarding the goals mentioned beforehand, also aimed to guarantee protection against strong sunlight and rain.

The parking lot consists of approximately 22 thousand square meters, 5,580 photovoltaic panels which generate 2.1 MWp, bringing a 30% reduction in the university’s consumption. It has 735 parking spaces, of which 15 are accessible, it also possess a charging station for electric cars.

Team: Ricardo Regis - Project Designer

The decision of covering the parking lot with photovoltaic panels appeared during the development of the project. It was observed that the potential for energy capture was very high due to the strong insolation that occurs in the city and, after studies, it was opted to install the panels.

adopted was a hybrid model of industrial with floating ceilings, thinking about the visual aesthetics of the place and maintenance. The colors used were white and black, so that all the highlight was the external vegetation through the large windows of the building and the works of art that exist in the place.

The project focused a lot on interior design, transforming the old place that had a labyrinth shape with many doors and walls, into something simpler with 3 large rooms and 3 smaller ones. The highlights are the 3 large environments: reception, vice dean’s room and advisory Theservices.style
