The Urban Refugee Project is a project whose aim is to address urban refugee problems in Thailand…………………… These urban refugees are not accepted, and hide in places in Bangkok because they are afraid of being arrested. They face problems regarding the lack of accommodation. The project aims to address these problems by providing the accommodation for the urban refugees during their time of refugee and waiting to move into a new country. Consequently, the objectives of the project are as follows : (1.) To build an accommodation for urban refugees. (2.) To provide services that help the urban refugees proceed to move into their new countries as soon as possible. (3.) To change the attitudes of the people of Bangkok towards the refuge.

04 SITE ANALYSIS There are around 5,099 refugees in Thailand, who are registered under UNHCR. These refugees come from many regions in the world, because they are threathened. These refugees are a new challenge for the Thai government, because their number keeps increasing, and the Thai government has to find a solution to address possible problems. SITUATION Most parts of the area are markets and schools. The green space covers 35% of the area. The area is a downtown aream where there are local traders from the markets and suppliers from the factories. The policy aims to improve the area to make it more suitable for a living area for urban people. In the area, there are urban people, country people, who come to trade, and working class groups. But they do not usually share the spaces. They only share the spaces that are night bazaars, food markets, wholesale markets, etc.

The soil’s site is filled +1.2 m.

Add a green space and activity spaces to help the refugees interact with the local people by adjusting the soil in front of the project; so that it is the same level as the roadside soil.

And the buildings are lifted to add room beneath to help with windflow and prevent a flood. The spaces underneath are also used for relaxation.

REGISTER SYSTEM Refugees flee from their own countries to other countries where they live temporarily. Asylum seekers apply for refugee status approved by UNHCR. UNHCR staffs interview refugees, and consider whether the refugees should get the status they requested Once the refugees get the refugee status, the next step is applying for resettlement. When there is a country willing to welcome refugees, the embassy of that country will conduct an interview with the refugees, and consider whether their resettlement should be approved If the resettlement is approved, the refugees will continue to resettle in the new country. Refugees seek help from UNHCR. Then UNHCR considers whether they will help the refugees by providing them housing in the project. Once arriving at the project, the refugees must go through the registeration proccess and health check-up. Then they will be allowed to settle. The building also is divided into two sections by sex for safety. when refugee come to the housing they have to help with agricultural works or etc

HOUSING SYSTEM GOVERNMENT Help from the government in forms of funds and land for project building.

PRIVATE FOUNDATION Such as UNHCR AMNESTY , ASYLUM ACCESS , JRS , IRC , ZOA REFUGEE CARE , BANGKOK REFUGEE CENTER. These help provide food, clothes, and funds for running the project.

URBAN REFUGEE HOUSING In the project, there is agriculture activities and product processing into international food for sale. And there is also a community market area for rent in order to get funds to keep running the project.

ACTIVITIES SYSTEM EXIBITION. A space where different plants are planted, and at which a cafe is located. The cafe is where people can meet and it also promotes empathy towards the refugees. Summer

URBAN REFUGEE HOUSING Food Waste 110 kg. of food waste is used as fertilizer daily. Vegetables are planted on the soil where the food waste is buried. The food waste will transform into humus for the soil.

Garbage. 430 kg. of garbages are picked up by a trash truck once every three week.

SANITARY SYSTEM From the diagram, in from of the project the METER position is shown. It indicates that the provincial waterwork system is applied in the project. The water will flow to WATER TANK for storage. Then TANK will release pressure to pull the water upwards into the upper tank. Then the water will flow to every section in the project via DOWN FEED water system. The GREY WATER from the project will be treated for later uses in AGRICULTURE PART and in the project.

FIRE ESCAPE SYSTEM 6 meters of space are left along the edge of the project; so that fire truck can go through. The fire system consists of the installation of smoke detectors and sprinkles in the building. And a fire house station and fire house cabinet are installed in every 45 meters radious in housing and offices. In case of fire, the water stored in the spare tank in the deck will be used.

AIRCONDITION AND VENTILATION SYSTEM The project design focuses on energy saving. The project is designed to accumulate wind flow to always cool the housing. Also, the building is elevated to support wind flow all over the project. In the office section and the central area of the project, the VRV air conditioning system is installed and the air conditioners can be activated saparately in each section.

ELECTRIC SYSTEM For the project, it is promoted that solar cells are installed on the roofs to save energy. The power from the solar cells will be used in every section in the project. Nonetheless, power from the metropolitan electricity system is used in case more power is needed. The power from that system is transformed via transformers (oil type). Then it is sent to MDB to supply every section of the project when the power from the solar cells is not enough.
