Habits that Wreck your Teeth

If you are someone who has a very beautiful set of teeth, you may not typically be afraid to do anything with regards to your teeth. Primarily because you do brush your teeth, floss it regularly and visit the dentist every six months. Although it can prevent the teeth from any unlikely oral condition, it does not guarantee that you totally be free from it. One's habits are a very significant factor that can contribute to good or worst oral health. While many of us are not aware of these habits, let me tell you the 4 bad habits that you should avoid from now on.

Crunching of Ice On a hot summer day, one remedy that we do to keep off the heat is to drink an ice cold soda or water. But after we drink the soda or water, one common thing that we do is to crunch the ice left. These ice cubes may seem to do nothing but better not be deceived. The cold temperature and brittleness of the cubes can lead to a fracture to the teeth. Moreover, the cracks made by crunching the ice can further develop to a serious dental problem in time.

Use of Teeth as a Tool In certain situations that we need to tear our favorite chip, open a bottle of soda, or just rip off a price tag, we don't use a tool anymore. The tool is replaced by our own teeth. This habit has a very bad effect on the health of our teeth. It can cause an already weak tooth to tip off and trauma to the other tooth. Our tooth is not a replacement for scissors, pliers or bottle opener.

Tooth Grinding Have you even heard of someone who always grinds his/her teeth at night? I'm sure you do. But others have the tendency to do it as well even at daytime. That person may just be stressed, anxious or have missing or crooked teeth. As a result, the pressure that is exerted leads to micro-fractures on our teeth. In the long run, these weakened areas may be the cause of the risk of developing dental problems.

Brushing too hard As part of the daily oral hygiene, brushing at least three times a day is a must. But one thing that makes it not advisable anymore is when you brush too much. Brushing too hard can possibly wear down enamel, sensitivities to cold substances; irritate the gums and cavity build-up.
