Adding a subwoofer is the single, most significant improvement you can make to a car audio system. Not only do you get the benefit of the subwoofer’s superior bass performance, but with proper system design, you also relieve the small front and rear speakers in your car from the burden of reproducing bass. This makes them sound better, cleaner and louder. The problem with traditional car subwoofers is that they typically take up a lot of room, which can be a big problem if you are fond of your vehicle’s comfort and utility. JL Audio’s Stealthbox® subwoofer systems are designed to solve this dilemma.

Our engineers begin the Stealthbox® design process by studying the acoustics of the target vehicle and evaluating potential Stealthbox® locations. Extensive testing takes place with the goal of maximizing performance while minimizing loss of vehicle utility and comfort. We then choose from our vast arsenal of acclaimed subwoofer components and our extensive bag of loading techniques to produce the best possible subwoofer response for each and every Stealthbox® vehicle. In addition to amazing audio quality, you get a product that installs solidly and precisely, without drawing attention from prying eyes. The secret behind the performance of JL Audio Stealthbox® systems lies in the unique approach taken in their design and the fact that they are handcrafted from durable fiberglass. Fiberglass is incredibly strong and can be molded into very complex shapes. The flexibility of shapes permitted by this type of construction gives us the ability to design your Stealthbox® to fit perfectly into tight spots, minimizing intrusion into your vehicle’s useful space. Fiberglass also delivers a level of enclosure rigidity and dimensional stability that's not possible with other enclosure materials. Wall thickness can be reduced compared to a typical wooden enclosure, giving a Stealthbox® more interior box volume for a given external volume (meaning louder, deeper bass in the end).

At our facility in Florida, expert craftsmen laminate, grind, join and finish all Stealthbox® enclosures. Proprietary techniques and materials developed by JL Audio through years of experience in fiberglass manufacturing ensure consistent quality and unsurpassed performance. The JL Audio subwoofer drivers at the heart of each Stealthbox® system also go through rigorous testing before being assembled and loaded into your enclosure. There are many cheaper ways to make a vehicle-specific subwoofer system, but there is no better way.

I M P O R TA N T I N FO R M AT I O N A B O U T S T E A LT H B OX® C A R PE T CO LO R Anything graded lower than excellent will differ from the factory color to some extent. Carpet Match Grades may not be accurate in older vehicles due to aging/fading in the color of the OEM Carpet. Customers should be aware of these facts to avoid confusion. Our goal is to provide all Stealthbox® products in colors that match well with factory interiors. Because of availability issues with carpet colors, some Stealthbox® colors are not precise matches at this time. The match grades below give you an indication of how precise our color match is for each Stealthbox® model. Over time, as new carpet colors become available to us, we may upgrade the match grades for certain models. Perfect: Actual exact factory color and texture (dye lot may differ slightly)

Fair: Same basic color, different shade/tone

Excellent: Precise color match, different texture

Poor: Same basic color, substantially different shade/tone

Good: Close to factory shade/tone, texture may differ

The X5 artfully blends the dynamic attributes of a great road car with the utility and versatility of an SUV. What it doesn’t have is a real subwoofer system. The small woofers under the front seats can only do so much.

The Hard Data: Contains one 10TW3-D4 subwoofer in a sealed enclosure. 400 watt power handling. Wired for 2 ohm mono. Installs into driver side hatch storage compartment. Steel mesh grille is included to protect the subwoofer driver. Installation does not affect storage of targa-top. No holes need to be drilled for installation. Easy to remove and replace. Use of driver's side, rear storage compartment is lost with installation. Storage compartment lid must be removed for installation, but can be replaced if Stealthbox® is removed. One notch of seat travel is lost with installation and full-recline of the seatback is only available when the seat is in its more forward positions.
