THE LEARNERS
I redesigned the cover of Chip Kidd’s novel for a class assignment. I opted for an retro feel in typography, patternwork and a color palette reminiscent of the story’s eccentric 1960s setting.
INTELLIGENT DARWIN
A topic of personal interest and public discord, I wanted to visually explore the cornerstones of Darwinism and Intelligent Design in poster form by experimenting with divergent aesthetic identities.
INTELLIGENT DARWIN
A topic of personal interest and public discord, I wanted to visually explore the cornerstones of Darwinism and Intelligent Design in poster form by experimenting with divergent aesthetic identities.
Darwinism answers to the evolution from species to species. Intelligent Design finds fault with Evolutionists’ inability to explain the origin of organic life.
Darwin
Biological systems, uknown to Darwin, can be irreducibly complex. Scientists who regard living things as designed will discover mechanisms that have been overlooked by scientists who regard living things as accidental by-products of unguided natural processes.

DESTRUCTION OF THE ENLGSIH LANGEAUGE
Language is the foundation of civilization, and it is startling to imagine mankind in the absence of language. Thomas Cole's painting series, The Course of Empire, always inspired me with its macabre but beautiful depiction of the rise and fall of civilization. I created a three-dimensional typeface out of pinatas, photo-documenting its creation and destruction in stages that echo Cole’s work.
AMERICAN BEAUTY
This was a typography assignment in which I designed a poster for city buses advertising the film, American Beauty. I used the inspiration of an iconic image of American suburbia–the white picket fence to–in my typographical treatment. A single red rose petal grazing the lettering is a reference to the rose symbolism found throughout the movie.
AMERICAN BEAUTY
WAKE UP!
I wanted to reproduce the experience of waking up by capturing light and text through pinholes. I juxtaposed a scanned image of my disheveled morning hair next to pinholes that form the words “I can’t wake up” to achieve the desired visual effect of grogginess.
SUMMER OF LOW
This was typography experiment in which I illustrated three pieces of type-driven black and white optical art that form the word “low” when viewed in sequence. I am currently collecting data to redesign it as an infographics project which maps out couples’ developing emotional stages.
NEW YORK TIMES
This was an typography assignment in which I created a typographical illustration to accompany a NYT op-ed piece. I chose to illustrate a dying money tree to highlight the article’s topic of the crumbling US dollar.
SECONDS
Originally designed as DVD packaging for the film noir, Seconds, I redesigned it into an event poster advertising the film as the recipient of an industry award. A smartly morbid film about taking on someone else’s body for a second chance at a fulfilling life, I chose to depict the main character and title as a silhouette outline.
CANNES FILMFESTIVAL AWARD
PRINT MAGAZINE
For this type-driven project, I redesigned the cover for Print magazine’s black and white issue. I illustrated a workable maze puzzle into which the magazine title and the words “black” and “white” are embedded.
