MEMBER FDIC
Welcome from the President Kristy Odom Lead Local On behalf of The Junior League of Fort Worth, welcome to the Christmas in Cowtown 2015 Holiday Gift Market! For many, this event is a cherished yearly gathering of fellowship, shopping, and supporting our community. That is exactly what this fall-time favorite means to our members. It’s with excitement, integrity, and a commitment to our Mission that every detail is planned with perfect execution. We hope you join us at our Cocktails in Cowtown Preview Party featuring the music of the talented Luke Wade, come to High Heels and Holly Private Shopping and Luncheon presented by Cook Children’s Medical Center, and bring your family and friends to experience our inaugural Saturday event Caroling in Cowtown. So put on your comfiest shoes, eat a hearty breakfast, and let’s start hitting those aisles! As our largest fund development opportunity, each ticket purchased and each person that graces the aisles is a part of the positive difference the Junior League of Fort Worth is able to make in North Texas every day. This year alone, 10 impactful projects are being funded to the tune of $340,000 and 50,000-plus hours will be served in our community by our trained volunteers through our partnerships with over 40 agencies. The selected projects and placements address areas of need in Fort Worth including access to services, education, health and nutrition, job training, and the arts. It is not without you and the steadfast support of our generous sponsors that we are able to provide $100,000 in honor of All Church Homes’s 100th Anniversary to help construct a new dining hall at their Emergency Youth Shelter, where we feel the heart of healing can begin through each meal shared and every conversation had. This year the Junior League of Fort Worth is focused on the call to action, Lead Local. It is not merely a theme investigating all that our members do throughout our community, but rather it’s a challenge for each woman to live our Mission of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the hours they commit to serving others as well as the lives they touch at home, in the workplace, church, and schools. All of our members are amazing leaders through their actions to impart positive change. I want to give a heart-felt thank you to our Christmas in Cowtown Co-Chairs, Katie Stadler and Wendy Wright, and their Sustaining Advisor, Lauri Lawrence. They and their committee are true servant leaders. Your gift of time, talent, and commitment to the Junior League’s Mission is deeply appreciated. We are excited you are here and hope you have a wonderful time, knowing you are part of the Junior League of Fort Worth’s ability to Lead Local and build a better community! With sincerest gratitude, Kristy Odom 2015-2016 JLFW President

Christmas in Cowtown Honorary Chair Joan Katz
The Junior League of Fort Worth is honored to have Joan Katz as our Honorary Chair for the 9th Annual Christmas in Cowtown Holiday Gift Market. Joan Katz is a civic leader, active philanthropist, and dedicated community volunteer who devotes her time and resources to causes and organizations that have deeply touched her life. She credits the Junior League of Fort Worth for the wonderful chance to develop new skills and form long lasting friendships: “The League is made up of a community of individuals who combine their passions, energy, voices and talents to make a difference in the larger community of Fort Worth. When these two communities unite through our projects, placements, fundraisers and united focus areas anything is possible.” As a four-time cancer and heart disease survivor, promoting women’s health is certainly important to her. Joan is also a strong advocate for taking charge of your health and making the most of each day. She co-founded the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure/Affiliate, Greater Fort Worth in 1992. This year’s event raised over $780,000, which will support breast cancer detection, treatment, and education, and help fund national breast cancer research. The event is now a leader in Tarrant County for breast cancer education and support services. She also lent her name to the Breast Center at Baylor All Saints Medical Center at Fort Worth Hospital because of her sincere desire to make the journey easier for others. Joan joined the Junior League of Fort Worth in 1983 just six months after finishing chemotherapy and says, “I will always connect it as my official re-entry back into life”. She has used her League training over the years in her work with The Gladney Center for Adoption, Jewel Charity, Cook Children's Woman's Board, The Learning Center of North Texas, Trinity Valley School, Temple Beth El, The WARM Place and El Tesoro de la Vida. As a member of the Training Committee, Joan said she had the opportunity to learn more about strategic planning, team building, and communication processes, and she continues to apply this training to her current volunteer work. Joan and her husband, Howard, just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. They have one daughter Lori, who lives in Fort Worth with her husband. Joan just earned the title of Grandma with the birth of her grandson, Sam, born in July. Voluntarism is a part of all of their lives, “We have grabbed hold of outstretched hands often in our lives and always try to return that outstretched hand to someone else.” "It is truly an honor to serve as Honorary Chair for this year’s Christmas in Cowtown," said Joan." I love shopping for a purpose…and of course for a grandson!” We are forever grateful for Joan's time, service and dedication to the Junior League of Fort Worth and to our community.

Christmas in Cowtown Co-Chairs
Katie Stadler and Wendy Wright
Thank you very much for joining us for the 9th annual Christmas in Cowtown Holiday Gift Market presented by the Junior League of Fort Worth! We hope you are blessed with a wonderful and festive experience as you shop over 200 handselected merchants. Be sure to stop by the Junior League Booth at the front of the market to learn more about our Mission and giving opportunities. Check out our this year’s customdesigned 2015 Christmas in Cowtown Radko ornament and learn how you can take a piece of Christmas in Cowtown home with you. All of the decorations you see around the market are available for purchase. We are so thankful that an amazing philanthropist from our Fort Worth community, Joan Katz, has joined us as our 2015 Honorary Chair for Christmas in Cowtown. Joan, a member of the League since 1983, is a perfect example of our Mission statement. She has dedicated her life to making the Fort Worth community a better place for women, children and families. Thank you, Joan, for your continued support of the Junior League of Fort Worth, and congratulations on that adorable new addition to the Katz family! We are equally as thankful for our wonderful Junior League of Fort Worth Sustaining Advisor, Lauri Lawrence. Lauri has been an invaluable mentor as we planned this fabulous market. Lauri inspires all of us with her service to many philanthropic organizations in Fort Worth. Thank you, Lauri, for time and energy you have given to our League and this amazing fundraiser. And finally, this event is made possible because of the amazing women on our Christmas in Cowtown committee. These women are the perfect assortment of dedicated individuals with a desire to Lead Local. They spent countless hours finding fabulous merchants, creating beautiful dÊcor, brainstorming innovative fundraising opportunities and much more! The experience of working with these women has been one of the most joyful privileges and rewarding experiences. We are both truly grateful for the friendships and accomplishments made this year. To our families, thank you for your understanding, kindness and support over the past year. You inspire us to continue to give back to our community and help those in need. Thank you for joining us on this adventure. To all our very generous sponsors, market attendees and merchants, thank you for your commitment to making Fort Worth a better place. Your generosity to our city is admirable. We hope you enjoy your experience at the 2015 Christmas in Cowtown Holiday Gift Market. May your heart be filled with joy this wonderful holiday season. God bless. Katie Stadler & Wendy Wright Photo courtesy of Gittings Photography

The exquisite artwork you have seen on our program cover, invitation, save the date and commemorative Christopher Radko® ornament was created by the award-winning artist and Junior League member, Mary Ellen Murphey Becker. This year's artwork celebrates the incandescent sparkle of joy we feel as the Christmas season draws near. In twinkling ornaments, shimmering ribbons, and snow-dusted pine boughs, we reflect on the promise and gift of another Christmas wrapped in family, friendship, and love. The centerpiece of this year's artwork, the reindeer, sits nestled among magnolia leaves, vigilant and wise, beckoning us all to cherish the commencement of the joyous season ahead.

ACH Child and Family Services: Wellness Program for Shelter Youth - $100,000
ACH Child and Family Services’ Emergency Youth Shelter is the only emergency shelter for youth in Tarrant County. JLFW volunteers will assist with the Wellness Program which focuses on classes and activities focusing on nutrition, exercise, and other life skill areas. JLFW funds will be used to construct a new dining room for the new shelter on the campus of ACH. The dining room will provide common space for youth for dining, crafts, wellness activities, and meetings.
Catholic Charities: Assessment Center Recreational Outings - $40,000
The Assessment Center serves our community’s most needy children: severely abused or neglected children who have been removed from their homes. The Assessment Center meets all immediate needs (food, clothing and shelter) for their first 90 days outside the home. The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services requires recreational activities, but does not fund them. JLFW funds will be applied to the outings so that they may participate in the full experience of attending the event. Volunteers will participate in outings, with staff and children, serving as positive role models.
Catholic Charities: Mentors & Makeovers - $14,000
Volunteers will serve as career coaches for female participants enrolled in the agency’s job training programs, many of whom are first generation college students. The career coaches will serve as role models, provide professional advice such as resume preparation and interview skills, and assist students in building motivation. Ninety percent of the program’s graduates earn $13 an hour. As participants are nearing the end of the program, volunteers will treat female students to a makeover day including new career clothing for interviews and haircuts. Easter Seals of North Texas: Computer Resource Lab - $15,000 Easter Seals of North Texas (ESNT) will develop a computer lab with assistive technology to help disabled job-seekers in their quest for employment. Currently, many of ESNT’s clients are forced to use the public library’s computer service, which has time limits and does not have technology to assist special needs adults. JLFW funds will remove these obstacles giving ESNT’s clients a better chance at becoming gainfully employed. ESNT estimates 600 clients will benefit from the computer lab services each year. Volunteers will provide assistance to clients and JLFW funds will be used to purchase equipment needed to establish the resource lab, and to maintain the facility and functionality of these services.
Fort Worth Drowning Prevention Coalition: Safe Swim Program - $30,000
Fort Worth Drowning Prevention Coalition (FWPDC) was established in 2012, with its mission to prevent drowning in Fort Worth, Texas. FWDPC provides on-deck water safety instruction to children and parents at four locations within our community. The agency strives to equip children to self-rescue. JLFW funding will be used for instructional materials & tools, and parent/caregiver educational materials, and to expand the program to serve additional participants. JLFW volunteers will assist with registration, instruction and will serve as water buddies.
Fortress Youth Development Center: “Summer Jam” Program Expansion - $27,000
Fortress Youth Development Center (FYDC) serves the near Southeast community of Fort Worth. Children in this area, come from low income families, where caregivers are predominantly functioning below the poverty level and without necessary literacy skills. Summer JAM allows FYDC to continue building relationships with the at-risk children served in its after-school program. The program provides a week at sleep-away camp in the Texas Hill Country and weekly field trips. This program also offers academic resources that keeps students engaged during the summer months. JLFW funds will be used for a newly designed Middle School space and to expand the enrollment of 30 additional middle-school aged youth. Volunteers will assist with summer programming and camps for the middle school aged students.
26
2015-2016 Community P rojects Fortress Youth Development Center: Uplift - $25,000
The FYDC UPLIFT program aims to connect the parents or care-givers of the youth served with the skills and knowledge necessary to support the FYDC curriculum. JLFW funds will allow for parenting class facilitators, meal and snack supplies during the monthly programs, special family events, photography and printing resources, speakers, childcare during the parent programs and creation of a monthly newsletter. JLFW will also help fund the FYDC Spring Literacy Carnival, where children and families will hear celebrity readers and receive children’s books as carnival prizes. Volunteers will assist with the Children’s Recreation Program two evenings per month.
Tarrant Area Food Bank: Mobile Food Pantry - $20,000
The Food Bank seeks to increase distribution of nutritious, perishable food to under-served families through expansion of its mobile pantry program. The mobile food bank distributes fresh, vitamin-rich meat protein, dairy, fruits and vegetables directly to clients from a refrigerated tractor trailer in the parking lot of these food pantries. JLFW funds will allow the Food Bank to expand their mobile pantry program to a new location in Fort Worth. This expansion will allow the agency to serve 300 to 400 families per month. Volunteers will assist with the distribution of food at Altamesa Church of Christ.
Texas Ballet Theater: “The Cinderella Project” - $15,000
Texas Ballet Theater offers the spring 2016 production of Cinderella as a learning opportunity for the children of Fort Worth and surrounding communities. Texas Ballet Theater operates CityDance, an educational outreach program that offers free after school-sessions of introductory ballet classes to students located in under-served neighborhoods. JLFW funds will assist in refurbishment of costumes for the production of Cinderella, supplemental educational supplies, refreshments, and a small portion will be used for operational expenses resulting from the two in-house performances. Volunteers will assist with the creation of the Cinderella study guide which they will share with local school districts and other JLFW partner agencies.
YWCA: Financial Empowerment Services - $30,000
The Financial Empowerment Services program helps low income women and their families organize and control their financial resources and set and realize personal financial goals. Financial education provides basic information to help a client start building their knowledge base. JLFW funds will be applied to non-salary related program expenses of Financial Empowerment Services and the Financial Coaching Clinics. Volunteers will assist with monthly coaching clinics and will mentor program participants throughout the month.

Becoming a Junior League of Fort Worth Member
Becoming a Junior League of Fort Worth Community Project
Do you have an interest in voluntarism? Are you committed to improving the community? Do you want to develop your own potential? If so, we want you to join us!
The Junior League of Fort Worth, Inc. (JLFW) strives to improve and positively impact the wellbeing of children and families in our community by providing a legacy of trained volunteers. The JLFW also provides funding to serval agencies each year. Our Project Research and Development committee reviews applications submitted by various community organizations and decides which of those will receive project status, which means the JLFW will contribute both volunteers and monetary support.
Each year the Junior League of Fort Worth (JLFW) trains new members (Provisionals) to be effective volunteers and leaders in our community. Provisionals complete a year-long training, learning and experiencing the League structure, programs and participating in community service. The JLFW is open to women who possess an interest in voluntarism, a commitment to community service, and a desire to reach their potential for voluntary community participation. The JLFW reaches out to women of all races, religions, and national origins.
Projects submitted to the JLFW Project Research and Development committee should address an identified community need but not duplicate community services. The project should have strong JLFW membership support and be directly tied to the use of volunteers as well as provide training for volunteers. The agency will be required to present financial reports bi-annually to JLFW and should have the potential to become financially independent once the JLFW Project status has ended.
We are actively seeking a diverse membership of women of all ages. Our membership includes a broad array of women who bring many different talents and perspectives to the community.
For further information of building a partnership with the Junior League of Fort Worth, Inc. and becoming a Community Project, please visit our website at www.juniorleaguefw.org.
To learn more or apply for membership please visit: www.juniorleaguefw.org or contact the Membership Vice President at info@juniorleaguefw.org.

Kids in the Kitchen
In May of this year, the Junior League of Fort Worth (JLFW) Kids in the Kitchen committee partnered with Fort Worth ISD schools to provide a week of wellness-based curriculum for second through fifth graders. The volunteers worked alongside students to educate them in making healthy life style choices. During the week students were challenged to exercise for one hour each day, eat fruits and vegetables with every meal, drink 1 quart of water, and try new exercises. During the challenge students earned raffle tickets to win prizes for their healthy choices. At the end of the week the JLFW held their annual Kids in the Kitchen health fair event on the campus of Texas Christian University. As the students and their families arrived on campus they were greeted by the TCU mascot, Super Frog. There were many activities for the kids and their families to enjoy, including a rock climbing wall, obstacle courses, and even a hula-hoop contest. They were able to participate in interactive cooking demonstrations provided by Blue Zone Project. No one went home hungry or empty handed. All attendees received a free lunch and got a chance to visit a Farmers Market, set up by the Tarrant Area Food Bank, where they were able to take home fresh fruits and vegetables. Kids won fun prizes such as athletic gear, books, and water bottles. Several lucky guests went home with basketballs, yoga mats, baseball gear, new bikes and helmets, and Razor scooters. Families left excited to go home with new recipes, snack options, and work out routines. Many can’t wait to come back next year to see what they can learn and gain from Kids in the Kitchen.

Cook Children's Medical Center Pancake Breakfast
“If You Give a Pig a Pancake”, then she might ask for a picnic and a day full of games and fun activities! That is exactly what the 2014-2015 Junior League of Fort Worth Provisional class brought to Cook Children’s Medical Center in April at the 2nd Annual Pancake Picnic. Patients of Cook Children’s Medical Center and Cook Children’s Clinics, their families, guests, community volunteers, and Mayor Betsy Price enjoyed the event based on the children’s book “If you Give a Pig a Pancake” written by Laura Numeroff. Cook Children’s Medical Center has been a part of our community since 1918 and has had a volunteer partnership with the Junior League of Fort Worth for almost 20 years. The 2014-2015 Provisional class worked together to host this year’s event to show their support for the medical center that has touched so many of our lives. Patients enjoyed blowing bubbles, dancing to a DJ, dunking Fort Worth Fire Fighters in the dunking booth, taking pictures with their families in a photo booth, playing on the GameTruck, and having their faces painted by Junior League volunteers. Each child attending the event received a goodie bag including a copy of the children’s book that set the theme for the day, as well as a t-shirt, a stuffed animal, autographed memorabilia from NASCAR drivers, and dental kits from local dentists. Of course you cannot forget the pancakes! Patients and guests dove into the build-your-own pancake bar, which offered several flavored syrups, toppings galore, and even whipped cream and sprinkles for guests to top their stacks. At the end of the event there wasn’t a pancake left in sight, they were just too delicious. Please join next year’s Provisional class in April 2016, for another great Pancake Picnic that will be day to remember.
