A letter from, well…me. My name is Jennifer Love Gironda, most folks call me Jenny. I make art. I teach art. I coach cheerleading. I also like all things sparkly…and I document it all on my blog. And, well…like I said, I make art…but I make art every single day. Really, I do…and then some. This year I made over 500 pieces of art, which is something that I am very excited about, which motivated me to create this document. What will you find inside? Inside you will find the work I created in 2012. (There is more, but this just covers one year) For the most part the work is separated into months and within each month ‘themes’, with some commissions and additional work from shows mixed in. This document is meant to serve as an overview of my work. To view pieces up close or to learn more about them, just check out my ART BLOG and RECENT WORK pages on my site, www.jenniferlovegironda.com. Folks, 2012 was without a doubt my most productive year to date…until 2013 that is! Stay tuned!

January 2012: My focus for January was ‘new’.

My first thought was ‘new shoes’. I also

worked with some sassy angels in fun animal prints and brightly colored heels. Towards the end of the month my work started to head towards my favorite thing to draw- the female face.

From left to right, top to bottom, pieces are numbered sequentially, CED #1-31

February 2012: My focus for February was hearts.

I made a different painted heart each

day for my ‘daily’ pieces; each heart was a small, square canvas board that I painted each day. The series began with just acrylic paint and progressed to include fun textural items like beads, feathers and crystals.

From left to right, top to bottom, pieces are numbered sequentially, CED #32-60

February 2012, Part 2:

I made a different painted heart each day for my ‘daily’ pieces,

but… I wanted to create something more. So I used the heart as a motif within a separate body of work involving figurative pieces.

March 2012: My focus for January was ‘mixed media’ and I was also prepping for an Edgar Allan Poe-themed group art show so I combined the two ideas. The result was a series of works that incorporated collaged papers, drawing and painting with darker imagery.

From left to right, top to bottom, pieces are numbered sequentially, CED #61-91

March 2012, Additional Works:

I created two pieces in March that I donated to an

event to raise money for Autism Awareness. The event was sponsored by the Brotherhood of Beards and Moustaches, aka B.O.M.B.

I finally finished a large painting that I had been

working on here and there. As you can see from the picture below, I was very excited to complete this piece!

April 2012:

For April I focused on a series I called, ‘Sweet Thangs’. I was inspired by the

work of Pop Artist Wayne Thiebaud and later in the series I began focusing more on texture by using paint thickener and later actual hand-beaded pieces of felt for the hair.

April 2012, Additional Works:

A friend of mine asked me to create a fun set of

paintings based on a story about her cat and a frog in her mother’s laundry room. I created a set of five small watercolors for her.

April 2012, Additional Works:

I created five acrylic paintings for a group art show

with a Star Wars Theme in May. These pieces were later donated (August 2012) to raise money for the families of the victims of the movie theatre shooting in Aurora.

May 2012: My focus was ‘one’.

I chose to work in monochromatic- just using a blue Prisma

Color pencil for most of the month.

May 2012, Additional Works: On a whim, I was inspired to create a piece in celebration of Cinco de Mayo.

May 2012, Additional Works:

I received an order on my Etsy shop for eight angel

paintings. The client was purchasing the angels to give out her group of friends; they had recently lost a close friend and the paintings were a tribute to her.

June 2012:

For June my influence was Bettie Page and pin-ups. I travelled a little this month

so I kept the size relatively small for these images.

June 2012, Additional Works:

July 2012:

August 2012:

For the month of August I began with the theme of ‘shadow’ and

interpreted it as ‘shadowing’ artists that inspire me. I quickly focused on butterfly imagery.

August 2012, Additional Works:

I started a side-series within my August Works,

inspired by the work of Innes McDougall. I combined the idea of the watercolor drips with the butterfly imagery I was working with for the month.
