CIRCLESLIFE @ MOUNTBATTEN The Circle is a universal symbol with extensive meaning. It is commonly used by designers to represent the notions of totality, wholeness, focus, inďŹ nity, unity and timelessness. The use of a circle in this project represents inclusivity. The architecture created enforces this idea of inclusivity and support, through the introduction of a bustling community hub radiating from the origin of each circle, which houses the funeral homes. Incorporated facilities such as a gym, dance studio, kayaking centre and childcare centre aims to attract residents from all walks of life to come together. The concept is to bridge the taboo that have long existed within the mindset of many Singaporeans about funeral memorial services. The building is designed such that the bereaved family is continuously surrounded and supported by a strong spirit of living and lifestyle. 1.

FACADE EXPLORATION To break the series of slabs and blend the communal activities together with the funeral, a series of undulating facade is placed on the architecture. A series of straight and curved undulating louvres are used.

SINE CURVE A series of curves along the section and elevations of the circular facade is used to create peaks along the facade. To create variating degree of light, apertures throughout the facade is used. This enhances the overall experience of the users in the funeral parlour.

FINAL FACADE To increase the repitition and subtety of the overall facade, more curves are applied through the elevation of the facade. These increases the expression of curves and uidity compared to a single curve running through the elevations.

ADVANCED CONSTRUCTION & INTEGRATION IN ARCHITECTURE Y4S1 Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC) is one of the game-changing technologies that support the DfMA concept to significantly speed up construction. Modular is a general construction term to describe the use of technology that facilitates off-site manufacturing. In this project, Mass Engineered Timber (MET) is applied at a modular level with PPVC counstruction applied at a structural level. The use of architectural technologies as an influence to innovative architectural design is explored together with integration between building elements and building services in promoting passive design. The final project ultilizes a system of PPVC and MET construction together with skyscraper structural designs. 1.

ARCHITECTURAL ANALYSIS OF EUROPEAN SCHOOL AT FRANKFURT A case study of the school was conducted by our team to better understand the systems and integration within the European School at Frankfurt. Studies of the school included understanding the architectural innovation, integration and lastly collaboration.
Structural Shear Walls
During this study a number of indepth analysis were conducted through drawing of relevant building services and systems. MET, PPVC units are employed to create a more sustainable design.

APEX : A CYCLIST’S GATEWAY Y3S2 The carpark of the Buona Vista Heartlands serve as an entrance from the green corridor to the heartlands of Buona Vista. Acting as a gateway to the heartlands, the cyclist is invited from the lush nature of the green corridor to the urban landscape. The architecture aims to use its structure and corresponding programmes to further express the post workout euphoria of the cyclist. In addition to the emphasis of the main entrance from the green corridor, the building is further angled to create subsequent thoroughfares linking the public transport services and ammenities to the other nodes of the site. This created a large courtyard space in the middle of the structure, serving as a transition space from the green corridor to the Buona Vista heartlands.

A “BRIDGE” IN KOLAM AYER Y2S2 This project is situated in Kolam Ayer. As the first active, beautiful and clean (ABC) waters programme, this site served as the benchmark for many other (ABC) water programme. This resides among different communal and social activities. Situated along the entire Kolam Ayer ABC park connector, activities and facilities include: pavilions, community gardens, playing courts, senior citizen and youth development centres. The programme consists of a centre for climate change where individual from the heartlands share sustainable practices though community bonding.

CULTURAL KNOT AT CHARTER GARDEN Y3S1 The buildings of Chater Garden forms a backdrop of history and culture of Hong Kong’s past and present. With the elevations of the iconic skyscraper wrapping the Chater Garden, the space and experience of the users are shaped by these visuals. In addition, the unique transition between the buildings and the urban area forms a vertical and horizontal circulation within itself. These network of bridges and stairwells within central enhances the overall circulation masking the interface between the ground and the upper levels.

TROPICAL ENVELOPE Y2S1 The challenge within this project was to design a building envelope that were suited for the tropics. The design intention of the project is to harvest water without the use of conventional means such as gutters and pipes. As such, our concept study was directed at how leaves channel water downwards through the use of drip tips. Applying this principle to our design, the modules are joined together to form a honeycomb lattice structure with a depression at the centre for water to drain down to lower levels. This allows for rainwater harvesting by channeling water into the facade. and direct it down to the ground where it can be stored and later used.
