CJ’s Integrated Research & Development Center is located in Gwanggyo New City, approximately 30 Km. south of Seoul. The underlying premise for the CJ Integrated Research & Development Center is rooted in understanding the work-life community; where the community and its relationship to the individual, institution and the city is paramount; where the collective is stronger than the single entity; and where the space created is more meaningful than an object or surface. The new CJ headquarters facility is derived from the architectural interpretation of CJ’s vision. Encapsulating diverse components that merges the best practices with the newest trends and technologies into a singular expression captures a physical understanding of the “Only One”.

The site is surrounded at the north & east by a green belt of native forest. An active downtown composed of residential and commercial uses dominates the south and west views from the site. Views out from the CJ site allow a visual connection to the surrounding community, inspiring healthy living from the recreational ďŹ elds near by, and oer appreciation of the hills in the distance . Currently, an abrupt cli face becomes the physical backdrop to the site. This presented both a challenge and an opportunity to utilize the southern exposure while embracing the heavy topography to the north.
