HOTEL 01 / Introduction
D E S C R I P T I O N
Based on the concept of an art gallery, the guests
become the artwork as they bring life to the suites and amenities of this luxury hotel. Starting with the entry that creates a clear axis from the street to the beach front, the guests are treated to a runway like experience as they move through the lobby and pool deck to the beach front bar and club. From the pool deck, there are unobstructed views of the suites, bungalows, and pools as they all face in on each other. In order to maximize views of the ocean, the form of the hotel opens up to the pool deck and angles towards the beach so each suite has a unique view of the ocean. The hotel also boasts 2 high-end restaurants, a luxury spa, night club, retail store, cafĂŠ, fitness venue, and flexible meeting/banquet hall.

and an open living area or “stage” that continues out to the balcony overlooking the pool. Each suite is furnished with customizable lighting features that can be seen from the pool deck allowing the guests to be part of display even when they are relaxing in their suite.

As natural light cascades down the museum’s split-face stone masonry walls,
the visitor is engulfed in an ethereal, inwardly focused space. A seemingly weightless plane floats above the main exhibition spaces, complimenting the floor’s smooth finish and contrasting the vibrant texture of the mass walls that divide the spaces. All the while, visitors to this museum are treated to a constantly evolving collection of the present day’s newest technologies.

MUSEUM 09 / Natural Lighting
SECTION DESIGN
In addition to being the primary organizing element of the exhibits, the four masonry
walls serve as the primary lighting source for the spaces and house the heating / cooling systems for the museum. Additionally, the floor is pulled away from the central exhibit space’s walls, allowing natural light to cascade down into the lower exhibit space. These hollowed walls appear to be of a solid mass but are actually supported by a system of steel columns and girders.

The building lays on the northeastern edge of the site with the
auditorium opening out to the south and overlooking the park / plaza. The backdrop of the stage has been opened up with a large curtain wall system that frames the views beyond for the audience. This frame affords the venue with a high level of versatility and range of use including views from the auditorium out, views from the park and plaza in, performances in the round, and even the opportunity for exclusively outdoor performances. This versatility begins to activate the plaza and park beyond to create a destination for visitors to begin interacting with the site more holistically.

VENUE DESIGN The operable glass curtain wall that divides the interior venue from the exterior plaza combines with a large LED screen to serve as an active plane from which different types of performance take place and are projected. The generous plaza space overlooking this active plane serves as both an exterior gathering space for performances and a space for community events such as farmer markets and festivals. The park also operates in this fashion, catering toward the active performance plane with its mound seating and towards the community with its large open green space.
