A NOTE FROM THE
This year’s staff was handed the newly crafted style guide from last year’s staff but were challenged to dismiss any ideas of what Bonfire magazine is and push past the ordinary. The staff had countless meetings where we struck through what is and highlighted what could be. We explored the unknown with the intention of making the hard topics of society our main focus. These hard topics we chose bridged the gap between stigmas and illuminated the humanity in each overlooked label. An Evolutionary Treatment for a Never-Ending Disease introduces us to two brave souls who aren’t defined by their illnesses and who are influenced by the ever-changing system of mental healthcare. The Church and Christianity Today explores the divide of the church in the age of the Protestant Reformation and how modern society now views Christianity. Dangerous Dialogue gives a voice to LGBTQ figures who are standing up for their rights and speaking on the harsh statistics, as well as opponents to the movement. Journey to a New Life invites us into the lives of three families who have been pulled in different directions throughout the adoption process and have persevered through the roadblocks toward becoming a family. Following the madness of conceptualization and exploration, we landed on a theme: “I Am Human.” The all-encompassing title questions the what’s in life, faces the hard topics and unifies the unknown. We wanted every detail of our “magazine” to be purposed by a stand-alone style, connected by design but differing in color and stories, like all beings in life. This year’s publication pushes past all surfaces to connect, ignite and inspire every human in hopes of bring about unity.
