Headteacher: Mr Ian Bartle BA Ed (Hons) NPQH

January 2020 Dear Parents/Carers, Happy New Year! Thank you for supporting us in returning all reading scheme books for our audit at the end of the Autumn Term 2019. As you know our reading scheme is primarily Oxford Reading Tree but your child may be a ‘Free Reader’ meaning that they can choose freely from our class and library ranges, suitable to their age and ability.. Children in Reception to Year 3 will also receive books to support their phonic acquisition. Your child will now bring home up to 3 reading books at once per week if on our reading scheme. We ask that where possible, especially for shorter text, books are read more than once to develop fluency, familiarity and sight recall. If your child receives phonic books this will be to provide them with both challenge and reinforcement, making one book feel easier than the other. Free Readers may also find that they receive a book from further on in the scheme. This is to support our want to continually work at best matching your child to books relevant to their age, stage and provide range. Our aspiration is to build a love of reading, Please continue to share a range of books at home, reading with and to your child.. Building comprehension of text is key to fully understanding and so within the sleeves of some of your child’s books will be guides of how you can best support this fully, as well as the book marks we sent home last term.. Do continue to record hearing your child read in their home school contact books, which we will check when changing their books The ideal is reading everyday for at least 10 minutes to supplement what we are doing within school. Reading books will be changed on the following days: Ladybirds and Grasshoppers: Fridays Oak, Ash and Elm: Tuesdays Hawks and Eagles: Wednesdays Owls: Tuesdays Jaguars, Tigers and Leopards: Children change as they complete books. Please note that if books are lost or not returned to school we will ask for reimbursement for the cost of replacing them. If there are any questions about this then please see your class teacher or Mrs Griffiths, our Reading Coordinator. Kind regards

Mr Bartle (Headteacher)
