Summer week 11 6th July 20 Foundation Stage Grasshoppers and Ladybirds

.. Dear All, this will be our last week of planning before the summer break. As always you will find lots of supporting materials in the [Docs] section of Tapestry to compliment this weeks themes in Phonics and Maths. Please continue to use all the online resources we have signposted you to throughout the summer, for Reading and other Curriculum support. Doing this will support your child as they begin the next phase in year 1.

I would like to take this opportunity to say a Big Thank You to Mrs Rose for the amazing support she gave to all of you and the EYFS children during the spring and summer term, especially at such an incredibly difficult time. Thank you all for the fantastic work you do with your child, we hope you have a really lovely summer and look forward to seeing you all in September [ at last]!!!!!!!!!!!! Kind Regards and Best Wishes Mrs Maskew, Mrs Rose and the EYFS team.

What do you think the Princess’s plan is ? can you explain your idea to your adult?

Can you draw the Dragon or the Princess?

Can you find any words with a trigraph in? Can you explain what a trigraph is?

What do you think will happen next, what is their plan ?

What do you think the King and Queen will say?

Write your own speech bubble for one of the characters !

What did the cook say ?

What do you think a prank is?

What is the knight thinking?

How did the Mothers and Fathers want their children to behave?

What was your favourite part of the story or character and why?

Use construction kits to make castles and dens for the princess and the Dragon Make a sketch or drawing of your design first. How do you want it to look? Or design a castle by using playdough to make a prototype. Will your castle have a moat? Or find these crafts on pintrest.co.uk

If you are really adventurous and have some safe cardboard at home, or an old box or similar then you could try this!

Or take this challenge!! can you solve this Problem ?

What will you need to use for this challenge?

Knowing the number bonds to 10 is an essential skill for all children. Draw 3 circles on a piece of paper, use this part part whole frame to make number bond sums to 10. See the examples above. You could use counters or pasta shapes. Smarties are always a good option, as a treat of course, and quite memorable !!

Problem solving !

How many different ways can you arrange the colours? You could use counters, choose 4 different colours, how many different ways can you sort them. Tell/show us on Tapestry. I wonder who will get the most?!

Learn the Alphabet! It is important to know the letter names. This is because when we describe digraphs and trigraphs to children in school we use the letter names. Learn the alphabet song below found on Youtube. Make sure it is an English version as the American versions often use incorrect pronunciation.

We have all been drawing rainbows lately. It is really good when learning the alphabet to put it into a rainbow. Particularly for children who have difficulty recalling sounds!!

Don’t forget the online Oxford Reading owl ! You may find other titles that are suitable and have a link to this week's stories.
