The Teaching School Lead is a new position and an opportunity to be involved at the start of the formation of a Teaching School Alliance. The Gryphon School, as part of the Sherborne Area Schools’ Trust, is very proud and excited to have recently been designated a National Teaching School and a National Support School. We will lead a new North Dorset Teaching School Alliance (NDTSA) serving and supporting schools across the area including Blandford, Gillingham, Shaftesbury and Sturminster Newton. It is for all schools both primary and secondary, academies and maintained, community and Church of England, state and independent, small and large, village and town. The NDTSA’s work will include recruiting new teachers, providing local CPD and leadership training, identifying SLEs (Specialist Leaders of Education) and LLEs (Local Leaders of Education) as well as supporting schools in their improvement. We are seeking someone with high quality leadership experience, a proven track record of managing projects, able to enthuse and engage others, who has a passion for education and learning. The successful applicant will work with senior leaders and staff across the schools, universities, training providers and with the NCTL. To lead and manage the Teaching School and the NDTSA to make a difference to the quality of education across North Dorset by building on the partnerships, pyramids and collaborations that already exist To shape, develop and sustain the NDTSA by working closely with all schools, school leaders universities, training providers and educators To coordinate the primary and secondary initial teacher training (ITT) School Direct provision To develop and coordinate a programme of continued professional and leadership development (CPLD) for all members of the teaching alliance, ensuring strong engagement by all partners To support leadership and governance development as well as talent management across the alliance To support the brokering and coordination of school to school support (StSS) and school improvement programmes
To ensure the NDTSA meets the national key performance indicators across all 3 delivery areas (ITT, CPLD and StSS) 8. To encourage, support and coordinate research activity across the NDTSA 9. To secure collaboration and partnerships; to be the link with the National College for Teaching and Leadership 10. To actively promote and market all the NDTSA opportunities and benefits 11. To ensure a sustainable business model for the operation and organisation of the NDTSA including budget planning, grant bid applications, administration and commercial opportunities 7.
Responsibilities Main duties ● To lead, manage and develop all aspects of the North Dorset Teaching School Alliance ● Work with the Strategic Board to develop and lead a 3-year vision and strategy for the Teaching School ● Manage and promote engagement with Alliance schools ● Develop the brand and raise the profile of the alliance and all schools in it ● Write, edit and publish a NDTSA newsletter and manage the NDTSA website ● Build relationships with the University providers and partners including Dorset LA and the Diocese of Salisbury ● Link/ Liaise with the National College (NCTL) and other relevant bodies (including the Teaching School Council) with regard to all current initiatives and those yet to be proposed ● Liaise/link with other teaching school alliances (TSAs)to develop collaborative projects ● Engage in peer review with other TSAs ● Monitor NDTSA finances and explore ways to create a steady income stream ● Secure funding from grants and other sources to build financial sustainability and enable us to expand the work we do ● Support the Governance of the TS including Board meetings, Steering Groups, governance links with SAST and The Gryphon LGB ● Undertake such administrative duties as required and develop the operational capacity of NDTA ITT ● Continue the highly successful North Dorset secondary school based School Direct with the Mid Somerset SCITT. There are 13 placements in 2017-18; there are 36 places available for September 2018. ● Primary school based School Direct with Bath Spa University – there will be 15 places for September 2018. CPD and leadership development ● Provide for the full continuum of development need from ITT through to the Executive Head role to include leadership, coaching and mentoring. ● Leadership training will come from our own course design as well as NPQ leadership courses using LLSW ● Develop and share subject and leadership expertise eg EYFS, KS1 moderators, Phonics, Maths mastery, assessment, Governor, SEND, TAs training, Christian distinctiveness etc ● Develop University links to supply accredited masters and other courses. ● Encouraging research and development School to School Support ● Use the range of talent in all our schools, including large and small primary expertise, to improve leadership and teaching. ● LLE and SLE identification, designation and training. ● Provide governance support and training. Our Partners The Teaching School application named 35 Schools including 8 Secondary and 27 Primary, 21 Church of England schools, both state and independent, with a mix of maintained and academy schools. Partners include the Mid-Somerset SCITT, Bath Spa University, the University of Exeter; Dorset LA and the Diocese of Salisbury. The intention is that the NDTSA is open for all schools in the area including those in South Somerset and Wiltshire. The NDTSA will collaborate with other Teaching Schools and Alliances – schools can be members of, and access services and support from, any TSA.
