Safety - Shelter - Sustainability

Each year, generous donors remember the needs of orphans. Since 2008, donors have engaged with us and our partners, helping care for the day to day needs of orphans in their care. Donors have provided safety, shelter and sustainability, funding wells, irrigation, agricultural and livestock shelters. Donors and supporters have rallied around the needs of children by providing dormitories, dining halls, community rooms, latrines, outdoor kitchens and security walls

family. In every case, MyLIFEspeaks provides daily care and support to the child, and to the families of special needs children. The children usually need daily therapy services due their disability or injuries. The care and support of MyLIFEspeaks includes physical therapy treatments when required. Unfortunately, Haiti hasn’t had resources to develop therapy treatments for the disabled or special needs child. Instead, some in the Haiti community view special needs children as defective, “cursed” or “unworthy”. The results from myLIFEspeaks therapy program is improving the local community’s value for the special needs child. The organization has developed a strong and positive reputation in the region and now families travel for miles to utilize the therapy program. Because of the treatment programs provided by MyLIFEspeaks, the children, families, and community are living fuller lives creating more demand for the programs. To meet the growing need, MyLifeSpeaks is converting two shipping containers into therapy rooms as the Special Needs Therapy Treatment programs expand. By helping fund this project, 200 Orphanages Worldwide is partner with MyLIFEspeaks to help provide the upgrades to the therapy room. Our donors support will enable the therapy staff to offer increased weekly services that otherwise would never be accessible to this vulnerable group.

Well Project in Burundi

JRMD–Burundi was established in 1994, following the Rwandan genocide. Burundi experienced its own genocide and civil war and infighting still causes unrest among the population. JRMD has promoted reconciliation and peace through the rebuilding of hope and homes for the victims of the war and needy families. The organization has developed Iwacu Kazoza School, serving more than 500 local children with excellence in education. Additionally, JRMD has been working to build an orphanage to house the children left alone by the civil wars.

Donors have joined with 200 Orphanages in supporting this mission through sustainable projects in Burundian communities. Funds have been raised and distributed for the boy’s dormitory and also for the bored well that will soon provide clean water to the dormitory and the school. The successful bored well has plenty of water and the next step is providing pipes from the well to the school, tanks to hold the water and plumbing in the school and dormitory. Many donors have made the work possible, as well as matching funds toward the completion of the water. Another $10,000 is needed along with updated estimates of costs. These preparations are underway and soon we’ll be disbursing the initial $10,000 raised. By funding this project, 200 Orphanages Worldwide will enable the residents of the boys dormitory, the students, staff at the school, as well as members of the surrounding community to have access to clean water. Buffalo Dairy Project in India

Over the past several years, 200 Orphanages Worldwide has helped Ashirvad Orphan Home provide safety, shelter and sustainability. Donors have supported the home for 120 children by helping complete a modern dining hall, complete with a steam kitchen. A library furnished with books, tables and chairs and computers. Donors have rallied around projects and helped fund a school bus for family outings and taking the children to and from school. Donors have funded solar lighting, solar water pump and finishing around a security wall and a poultry house. Our partnership remains varied and strong through funding these projects as donors and supporters make a direct impact in the future of the children in their care. This year, Ashirvad has requested funds to provide daily milk for their 120 children. Indian local news sources have reported that the current milk supply is being mixed with harmful chemical and substances that can affect the health of anyone who consumes it. Dairy products are a staple in the daily diet of most at the Orphan Home. The Buffalo Dairy Project wants to make sure that the 120+ orphans now living in the Ashirvad Orphan Home avoid the risks of contaminated milk in the market. By purchasing 2 buffalo, the Orphan Home can keep a safe and sustainable supply of milk for the children.

This can be accomplished with your help! All they need to start is two buffalo, a shed and enough funds to manage the animals for a year. Solar Water Heater in India

There are 120 children living at Ashirvad Children’s Home. 200 Orphanages has worked with the founders of the organization for more than 8 years helping provide safety, shelter and sustainability. Some of our projects have included completion of a dining hall, a school bus, a gate and parking area for the bus, a library, a steam kitchen, new bathrooms, a community hall, a sick room, a poultry house and most recently solar pump and lights for the compound. By funding this project, 200 Orphanages Worldwide will provide a long-term investment to ensure the happy and healthy livelihood of the Ashirvad children. The most current request includes a solar water heater. This item would provide sustainability for children as they currently take cold showers during the winter when temperatures average around 53 degrees. The total project cost is $2,933 and will pay for a solar water heating system.

Safety - Shelter - Sustainability

Mainsprings-JBFC, Tanzania, provides safe shelter to more than 50 girls on one site and 16 currently on a new site funded by donors from 200 Orphanages. The homes are places of refuge for vulnerable girls who have been abused or abandoned. The work that Mainsprings creates a safe environment for the girls to grow, learn and flourish. The basic needs, food, shelter, education and medical care, even counseling is available for the girls in need. It’s the extra needs, the niceties that often go unmet. 200 Orphanages is helping create “A Gathering Place” for the girls. Linda Hanson visited the site and noticed after showers, the girls had to walk back to their dorms through dirt paths. She also sat in the hot sun with Bette, one of the residents and helped her with her reading skills. Linda’s vision to create a gathering place, complete with a gazebo paved path and paved yard. The idea is to create a gathering place where the girls can study, read, play and share stories with each other. Linda is encouraging donors to be generous in helping the girls have a safe place to gather in friendship and fellowship. She’s hosting an in-house gathering with friends and family to share her story and encourage others to help fundraise for this loving project.

Safety - Shelter - Sustainability

Donors Make A Direct Impact 200 Orphanages Worldwide is celebrating its 10 year anniversary of providing funds for safety, shelter and sustainability for orphans. Donors have engaged with our vision, providing funds for 50 projects for 17 partners in 16 different countries. It’s quite a feat, considering 200 Orphanages is primarily a volunteer organization. The Founder/Executive Director serves as a volunteer, not drawing a salary or even expenses. Instead, the administration and operations is self-funded. From time to time it’s necessary to hire part-time Independent Consultants for operational support such as project management and bookkeeping. These positions are funded with donations designated for the purpose of operations, allowing 100% of donations toward a project goes to the project.

200 Orphanages serves as a guardian of your funds to ensure that your donations are used for the purpose intended. Part of our mission is to be a conduit for your funds, supporting you in your passion to help an orphan.

Safety - Shelter - Sustainability How We Work 7 Frequently Asked Questions 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) 7) 8)

Why donate through 200 Orphanages and not directly to the organization? What Does 200 Orphanages Fund? How are Funds Distributed? Do You Have 200 Orphanages? What is the mission of 200 Orphanages? How can Organizations Partners with 200 Orphanages? How are the projects selected? How many orphan projects have you completed?

1) Why donate to 200 Orphanages and not directly to the organization? 100% of funds donated to a project go to the project. Partners are required to sign a partnership and funds disbursement agreement that requires compliance with policies of 200 Orphanages. Once the funds are distributed, project progress reports, photos and when necessary onsite inspections by a 3rd party. We serve as guardians of the funds making sure the funds are used for the designated project. 2) What Does 200 Orphanages Fund? Our organization is unique in that not many organizations focus on helping fund infrastructure. Helping partner organizations fund building projects meets a dire need. Many fundraising organizations raise funds to sponsor children, providing for day to day needs and their education. We focus on helping our partners provide safety and security for orphans. These larger, one-time needs often stretch already limited resources of our partners. Our mission is to come alongside our partners and help them provide safe shelter and sustainability. 3) How are Funds Distributed? 100% of donations is disbursed to the designated project. Funds are diligently administered with accountability and transparency, and ongoing oversight. Our partner is required to provide a construction budget as well as a construction timeline for approval. The final funding amount may vary based on current exchange rates. Once the project is approved, funds are raised and disbursed, the partner is required to provide receipts, updates and photos, and if necessary submit to a third party inspection. We’re committed to 100% of donations be sent to the designated project. All operational expenses are paid for out of funds specifically donated to operation and capacity building. If at any time the partner does not use the funds for the directed purpose, we request that the funds be returned. 4) Do You Have 200 Orphanages? We do not have 200 orphanages worldwide. Instead, our vision is to one day help build projects for 200 orphanages. When 200 Orphanages was just an idea, I spoke with co-founder Fred Cornforth, a commercial builder from Idaho. His passion to build affordable housing spilled over to building homes for orphans and as the vision for our nonprofit unfolded, he had already built a few orphan homes. In one of our conversations, he said, “I’d like to build 200 orphanages.” Thus the name. 5) What is the Mission of 200 Orphanages? Our primary mission is to help our partners caring for orphans raise awareness and funds to provide safe shelter and sustainability.

6) How can Nonprofits Partner with 200 Orphanages? Nonprofits learn about us through the Internet, their friends or other nonprofits. The organization completes an application providing background information, current project needs and references. After much due diligence and research, their organization is presented to our board of directors for approval. Once approved, our partners are required to enter into a partnership agreement requiring accountability and transparency. Basic criteria for acceptance as a partner include:  Be an existing organization serving the needs of orphans  Be a U.S. based nonprofit in good standing with the IRS and file current 990s  Provide sufficient and acceptable reporting for accountability  Show operating funds and staffing that are able to manage the project once built  Have proof of good standing with local affiliates/governments with positive references  Provide a complete plan, projections on the project  Submit to unannounced third party inspections  Provide ongoing information for due diligence and reporting  Agree to and sign our partnership and funds disbursement agreement 7) How are projects selected? The partner is often in need of funding for an existing project that will provide safety, shelter and sustainability. The partner understands that we are not a grant making organization. Our model for working with international orphan care organizations is unique. We create a partnership, working in collaboration to develop a plan to raise funds. This enables the partner to build a base of on-going supporters. Once the project is approved by our board, our donors and supporters are made aware of the project and encouraged to mobilize fundraisers, provide donations or simply sharing the project with others. 8)

How many projects have been funded? Since 2009, we have disbursed almost $566,000 with $133,000 more in process. Additionally there is $143,000 held in account for administration and operating expenses, so all donations go to provide safety, shelter and sustainability to orphans. Our donors have funded security walls, orphan homes, chicken coops and pig pens. Supporters have rallied around our partners and provided funds for wells, outdoor kitchens and latrines. We can’t do it all, but we can all do something!
