The player should find 8 objects (or groups of objects) from the woods. Four objects that are somewhat resonant (hollowed or decaying logs, clang-able rocks, piles of leaves) and four objects to strike the first group with (mostly sticks with various characteristics). The player may fashion the found objects to make them more suitable to perform with, or fabricate new objects made exclusively of things found in the woods (a rock mallet, for example). The four sounding objects should be laid out in front of the performer, preferably on the ground, and correspond to the high and low lines of each of the two staves. Each resonating object should have a striking object particularly for it, with two held in each hand. Either B or C shall be omitted, depending the desired length of a given performance. A and D will always be played (thus, the format of the piece is either ABD or ACD).
