Honors and Awards GRADUATION WITH ACADEMIC DISTINCTION Graduation with academic distinction is based on an earned average of 3.20 or higher on a 4.00 scale for work completed at Jackson State University for all undergraduates degrees. Students who graduate within this grade-point average range are honored with the following: Summa Cum Laude Magna Cum laude Cum Laude
3.80 - 4.00 3.50 - 3.79 3.20 - 3.49
Graduates with academic distinction wear gold honor cords during the commencement exercises. Notes: A transfer student is eligible to be considered for honors provided: (1) the student has earned a minimum of 48 semester hours at Jackson State University prior to the semester of graduation; and (2) the student maintains a 3.20 or higher grade-point average for the coursework completed at Jackson State University. Students who already hold a baccalaureate degree are not eligible for this distinction.
