SPECIAL ELECTION MEETING IN APRIL
special AAMN general election meeting is scheduled for 6:30 PM on April 14, 2010 at the Botanical Garden Administration Building. This meeting is prior to the monthly program session. There are two agenda items for this meeting. A. Fill the position of the AAMN Board President B. Accept or reject the proposed TMN State Bylaws ELECTION OF PRESIDENT OF AAMN
The AAMN Board of Directors and the state sponsors have determined that since the position of AAMN Board President is one of great importance, the general membership should be involved in the selection. At the same time, the Board agreed that any vacancies occurring as a result of this election would be filled according to the current 1998 Bylaws: Article V-Sec. 2 –“‘A vacancy occurring on the Board of Directors shall be filled by a majority vote of the remaining directors for the remaining unexpired term.” AAMN members interested in running for AAMN Board President are invited to submit their name and a short statement on their qualifications for the position. Names are to be submitted to the AAMN Newsletter Editor, Joann Smith by March 23, 2010. An announcement of candidates and

their statements will be sent to all members 15 days before the election and will be published in the April 1, newsletter. Printed ballots will be provided at the April 14th meeting. Nominations from the floor will not be accepted. BYLAWS
To review the proposed Bylaws as well as the minutes of monthly meetings, refer to the new AAMN Documents Folder online. Once adopted, these Bylaws will go into effect on Thursday, December 9, 2010. New and existing TMN chapters are encouraged to adopt these state proposed Bylaws, patterned after the original AAMN set of Bylaws. A copy of these Bylaws will also be sent to all the AAMN members 15 days before the special election meeting for final previewing. If you choose to review the state Bylaws Template, go to the TAMU link, then click on the “Read Me First” link found on the left of the page. At this link you will also find the current versions of the TMN Roadmap for Adoption of New Bylaws and Chapter Operating Handbook for EXISTING Chapters; the TMN Program Chapter Management Guidelines; the TMN Standards of Conduct and the TMN Code of Ethics which have guided the board throughout this process.

News from the Board Committees Projects to be reviewed for approval as a Master Naturalist activity must be submitted on the Submission for Activity Approval form. Forms can be obtained by contacting me, Pamela Ball, pball12@satx.rr.com, or from the AAMN website at www.alamomasternaturalist.org. PLEASE REPORT YOUR HOURS !! Reporting hours is easy with the new EXCEL spreadsheet that was developed for e-mail submissions or for mailing in your hours. It is available online at www.alamomasternaturalist.org.

DID YOUR HOURS GET LOST??? A new committee of Alamo Area Master Naturalists is taking action in an attempt to provide members with award pins for hours earned. Some of our old records have been lost, especially regarding the 2002-2006 time frame. If you have records of hours earned during those years, we hope to hear from you so that we can complete our records. John Wolcott jwolcott@satx.rr.com and Roy Yarnold royyarnold@sbcglobal.net have not only volunteered to assist you with this effort but will also serve as the clearing-house for information regarding reported hours, hours that have vanished and those that have gone unreported. As most of you know, each year we award ‘one of a kind’ certification pins for those who achieve 8 hours of advanced training and 40 hours of volunteer service. This year that pin is a wood duck. Additionally, throughout the year, the milestone dragonfly pins are also awarded for 250 hours, 500 hours, and 1,000, 2,500 and 5,000 hours of volunteer service. We know there are members who have reached these milestones, but because of lost records we do not have a true total of hours performed. If you have records, by year, of your volunteer hours, and if you feel that you have earned a milestone award pin which you have not received, please contact Roy Yarnold or John Wolcott. Perhaps you will be seeing your name in print in this newsletter in the next few months. Let’s try to break the records set in 2008 for hours reported and number of members reaching recertification!

BIG Tree Planting
C
ity Forester Michael Nentwich invites his fellow Alamo Area Master Naturalists to help plant 25 large (45 gallon) trees on the schoolyard of Northern Hills Elementary School on March 6, 2010. This is a large schoolyard with little shade, so the addition of these trees will be most welcome by the community. MN's will help Michael supervise the work by leading the groups of volunteers who will be putting the trees into the ground. The first half hour (0800 to 0830) will be training in proper planting techniques, so MN volunteers of all experience levels are welcome. The planting holes will be dug before we arrive, so we can focus on getting the trees into the ground with the best preparation for success in their new permanent home. During the rest of the morning, the City Forester will guide the MN's work with the neighborhood volunteers. Please bring your own gloves and kneepads and dress for the weather, as all activity is outside. Approved for volunteer hours This tree planting project is part of a District 10 Neighborhood Sweep conducted by CoSA Housing and Neighborhood Services, and supported by the Alamo Forest Partnership. The City of San Antonio will bring tools, trees and other supplies. March 6, 2010 8 a.m. to noon 13901 Higgins Rd., at the intersection of Uhr Lane, between Stahl Rd. and Nacogdoches Rd. Please respond to City Forester Michael Nentwich at 210-207-3108 or michael.nentwich@sanantonio.gov
