Pleased to meet you

John Watters 05 Session 2

November 2013

Now around 50 of us are getting to know a little more about each other‌

…You can view this as a form of ‘Networking’ Which is sharing and gaining pertinent information that can help us gain something or other.

There are over 7.5 Billion people on our planet at the moment.

This tends to concentrate ones mind on OUR scale of professional existence

Starting to get to know people NOW is important

But it should have a reason and a plan

Your ‘network’ is for many reasons, and it can be friends, family or colleagues, teachers, tutors or whomever you see as beneficial to your practice.

WHY Do we ‘Network” at all…

Quite simply, so people know YOU exist as a Creative and can see what makes YOU special.

Getting to know your ‘peers’ within the Industry is beneficial in many more ways.

Advice. Mentoring. Feedback. Visits. Placements. Collaborations. Employment

What methods can you employ to get in contact initially?

Investigate yourself.

But, above all we must have a reason to speak to them.

Once you have identified areas that you may have a voice in.

Get the things you will need in place first.

AGAIN a reason or requirement from this contact.

Advice. Mentoring. Feedback. Visits. Placements. Collaborations. Employment

WHAT Will you ask, send and what should it be like?

Something with a ‘professional’ look and a reason to respond. !

WHY ARE YOU CONTACTING ME? !

WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME? !

IN WHAT WAY DO YOU DO YOU WANT THEM TO RESPOND?

What should we consider?

An identity of some kind.

Maybe a CV? (But a different kind of CV)

A position to contact them from.

TASK: Investigate a list of methods you can employ to contact other Creatives, studios or agencies. List these on your PPP Blog and why each are potentially a good vehicle to employ and we will move on to the next phase in Session 3. I will be going through TASK 1 in the meantime, so if you haven’t uploaded to your blog‌get it done NOW please.
