URBAN SEAMS Rome, Italy spring 2011
“Urban Seams is the design continuation of a project created for the national Arturbain Design Competition in Rome. The focus of the design is concentrated on a site adjacent to the Colosseum. Three points are distinguished from the broader competition objectives to the triangular site displayed. The design points consist of a market, a piazza, and a mixed residential and commercial area. My main focus for the group studio project is directed towards the residential design portion, renderings, and building of the model.
The “Duality Cube” displays a connection and interaction of light and passage between forms. The two masses are formed of wood and rockite. The cube was displayed in an exhibit in the University of Massachusetts’ Studio Arts Building as well as the University’s Architecture program reaccreditation exhibit at Herter Gallery.

Colorful tiles will be incoprorated as well as an art installation in the center of the atrium area. This will liven up to the concrete masonry that exists in the atrium currently and create a connection to the community spaces surrounding the atrium also under renovation, as demonstrated in the images on the right. The renovation of the WGBY Room is one of many assisting to revitalize the mall level of this school so local organizations may utilize the spaces again and do so in better conditions.
